Sci Fi TV News Briefs: Disney+ Announces More New Series Including She Hulk and Devil Dinosaur, Stranger Things Could End With Its Fourth Season, and More

Sci Fi TV News Briefs: Quick hits keeping you updated on sci fi and fantasy television news.

Coming Soon to Disney+: Disney and Marvel were very active at D23 this past weekend making multiple announcements about new TV series for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service (and there were several movie announcements of interest as well). A She Hulk series is planned which will focus on Bruce Banner’s cousin who also turns into a Gamma Ray-infused superhero. Another series will follow the Moon Knight character, a mystical and multi-personality superhero. Also, a Ms. Marvel series is in the works and will introduce the first Muslim superhero to the Marvel Universe. My understanding is that all three of these will be live-action shows and they will joining other previously announced Disney+ entries such as the Loki series, the Scarlet Witch / Vision series, and the Hawkeye series. Also, an animated series based on the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur comic is in the works. That one started as a Jack Kirby creation in late 1970 and received a modern update in 2016.  And Disney has announced twenty-three episodes for its upcoming animated What If? series which will start with Peggy Carter as Captain Britain and Steve Rogers as Iron Man (with Hayley Atwell and Chris Evans returning to voice their roles). Not too much in the way of details is available on these new shows, but stay tuned for updates. Disney+ bows on November 12th and expect the superhero shows to start dropping at the beginning of 2020.

Endgame for Stranger Things: Netflix’s retro-paranormal series Stranger Things could be coming to an end with its fourth season according to the site We Got This Covered. They have heard from an inside source who claims that the streaming service plans on wrapping that one up with a fourth and final year. The Duffer brothers–creators of the shows–had previously mentioned that they wanted to bring the story to an end around its fourth or fifth season, and Netflix usually caps its shows off around their third or fourth season. Stranger Things has been a huge hit for the streamer, and each season has been rolled out as a major event. But creatively this might be the right time to conclude the series. Note that it has not been officially renewed for a fourth season yet, but I expect that announcement at any time.

McGregor Returns: We previously reported that Disney+ is working on a live-action Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series and Ewan McGregor (who played the character in the prequel movies) has confirmed that he will be returning to the role. According to producer Kathleen Kennedy, they have “all the scripts written we’re ready to start shooting next year”. Previously, there were plans for a stand-alone Obi-Wan movie, but apparently they decided to expand that out to a TV series.
