Streaming Finds: Watch Babylon 5, Stargate: SG-1, The Outer Limits, and More On Comet TV

Streaming Finds: Tracking down sci fi and fantasy shows of interest available on the streaming services.

Comet TV is a relatively new digital channel (it started in late 2015) that is also available for streaming and that hearkens back to the Sci Fi Channel in its early days. It airs genre movies and TV series and has quite a lot that would appeal to sci fi fans. Among the TV shows currently in its Monday thru Thursday evening rotation (starting at 6 PM EST and going until after midnight) are Stargate: SG-1, Babylon 5, The Outer Limits (the original and the revival), and Stargate: Atlantis. Other shows that it is airs include the British series Sapphire and Steele as well as the Gerry Anderson Supermarionation shows such as Thunderbirds, Stingray, Supercar, and Joe 90. Those usually run on all-day blocks on Sundays rotating with some of the other shows mentioned above. As for movies, Comet TV has some classics such as The Terminator and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai as well as cult favorites like The Man from Planet X and Red Planet Mars. It also has a fair amount of low-budget cheesy flicks to pad out the schedule as well and it cycles through movies on a regular basis. Former shows that have aired include Space: 1999, Men into Space, Andromeda, and Poltergeist: The Legacy.

The streaming version is available for Roku, Amazon TV, Apple TV, and more and you can also watch at CometTV.com. It is live streaming, so whatever is on the schedule at that point will be playing when you turn the channel on. It runs adds, but mostly for in-house programming and it’s no more than you would see while watching a show or movie in syndication (though they are somewhat repetitive). The channel is also available from some satellite and cable providers and if you have a digital antennae you will be able to pick it up. Even though it has limited programming, this a a channel that sci fi fans should get behind because it is doing a much better job of representing the genre than Syfy. Just that main evening block of series should be enough to draw plenty of attention, and the more viewers the channel gets the more ad revenue it has coming in and the more programming it can add to the schedule. Perhaps at some point, and with enough support, Comet TV will offer its shows and movies on demand. But in the mean time, but sure to check this one out because it is the best sci fi channel we currently have on television.
