Cancellation Watch Breaking News: CBS Has Renewed Blood and Treasure for a Second Season

CBS has give a second season renewal to its freshman action-adventure series Blood and Treasure. Amy Reisenbach, the CBS executive VP of current programs had this to say about the show:

Blood & Treasure is a fun, escapist adventure with comedic elements filmed in multiple locales around the world that has been a great performer and a wonderful addition to our summer schedule. We’ve heard the story pitch for season two and look forward to seeing all-new exploits from Russia to Southeast Asia next year.

The renewal comes despite the fact that the show’s ratings have dropped some the last few weeks. But it is performing better than the CBS original Salvation did last Summer and it did return to the Top 25 this past week based on total viewers. In the past, the network has partnered with one of the streaming services on its Summer originals in order to share the production costs, but Blood and Treasure remained in house this year on the network-owned CBS All Access. It is possible that CBS has international syndication deals for the show that give it a boost since the globe-trotting adventure might appeal to the worldwide audience. The current season will wrap up in mid-July with the second planned for Summer 2020.

Blood and Treasure follows an antiquities expert who teams up with a notorious art thief in order to catch a terrorist who uses stolen treasure to fund his actions. In the process they find themselves in the midst of a two thousand year old battle for the cradle of civilization. It stars Matt Barr, Sofia Pernas, James Callis, Katia Winter, and Michael James Shaw.
