Cancellation Watch Breaking News: Netflix Cancels Horror Series Chambers after One Season

In a rare occurrence, Netflix has cancelled one of its scripted originals after only one season.  The horror series Chambers, which stars Uma Thurman, will not be continuing for a second season. The streaming service made the following statement about the cancellation:

Chambers will not return for a second season. We’re grateful to creator and showrunner Leah Rachel for bringing this story to us and to her fellow executive producers Alfonso Gomez Rejon, Steve Gaghan from Super Emotional, Winnie Kemp and Wolfgang Hammer from Super Deluxe, and Jennifer Yale. We’re also thankful to the tireless crew, and to our incredible cast, especially Uma Thurman, Tony Goldwyn and talented newcomer Sivan Alyra Rose.

Of course, Netflix does not share its viewership numbers, but originals on that service have a high rate of renewal after their first season (though they often no not stick around beyond their third year).  The show has received mixed reviews at best, currently holding only a 41% Fresh Rating at Rotten Tomatoes (though it does have a 67% Audience Score).  Whether the show’s studio will try to shop it around remains to be seen, but Netflix tends to retain to the rights to its originals for a minimum of two years.

Chambers follows the story of a teenager who, after receiving a heart transplant, is haunted by unexplained visions. As the visions grow more troublesome and happen more often, she begins to unravel the horrifying circumstances and conspiracy that led to the donor’s mysterious death 1. It stars Sivan Alyra Rose, Griffin Powell-Arcand, Uma Thurman, Tony Goldwyn, and Lilliya Reid.
