Cancellation Watch: The Tick Is Done for Now According to Ben Edlund

Last month, word broke that Amazon had cancelled its reboot of The Tick after two seasons. However, the show’s studio was shopping it around, with creator Ben Edlund championing the cause. But apparently there were no interested buyers out there (or Amazon put stiff constraints on the show jumping to another venue), and Edlund has confirmed on Twitter that the show will not be making a move:

He did offer hope that the story would continue in some format:

We will look for other opportunities to continue this story with this cast, but the current series must I’m afraid come to its end.

Please continue to choose love and hope for good things. And I think we might as well accept it as a law of the universe: when the time is right #TheTick always comes back…

This is the second time that a beloved live-action version of The Tick has been cancelled, the first being the 2001 show that starred Patrick Warburton and was cancelled by FOX after only nine episodes. Perhaps Edlund will continue the story in comics, but since he mentioned he wanted to keep the cast together, maybe he will try further down the road to revive this series (Amazon likely has the rights to the first two seasons for at least a couple of years). For now, fans will have to be content with the twenty-two episodes that were produced and hope that maybe more will follow at some point.
