Sci Fi TV News Briefs: Evil Heads to CBS This Fall, Snowpiercer Moves to TBS and Gets Second Season

Sci Fi TV News Briefs: Quick hits keeping you updated on sci fi and fantasy television news.

CBS Fall Schedule: The eye network announced its Fall schedule today which adds new supernatural drama Evil to Thursdays in the 10 PM EST timeslot.  It stars genre veterans Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Katja Herbers (Westworld, The Leftovers) and Michael Emerson (Person of Interest, Lost), and following is the official description of the show:

Evil is a psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. The series focuses on a skeptical female psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a carpenter as they investigate the Church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions and hauntings. Their job is to assess if there is a logical explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work.

MacGyver was left off the Fall schedule and will apparently return for its fourth season in at mid-year or perhaps for a Summer run.

More Star Wars Heading to Disney+: The new Disney streaming service, set for a November launch, already has the live-action Star Wars series The Mandolorian in the works and is also planning a Rogue One prequel series in which Diego Luna returns to the role of Cassian Andor. Now it appears that a third live-action Star Wars series is on the way as revealed by Bob Iger in Disney’s Upfront presentation this week. He did not offer any details or a targeted debut, but expect it to arrive likely at some point in 2020.

Snowpiercer Switches Track to TBS: The long in development TV series Snowpiercer, based on the 2014 movie of the same name, may finally be on track to debut on the small screen, though not for a while. The show was picked up by TNT last year, but has gone through some behind the scene changes. Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) wrote the pilot and was originally set as showrunner, but he was then replaced by Graeme Manson (Orphan Black) who changed the direction of the show. Snowpiercer is now shifting to TBS as WarnerMedia is shuffling properties across its networks and sending dramas to TBS. It will still take a while for the series to arrive as its debut is targeted for Spring 2020, but on the good side the show has been renewed through a second season in advance. Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, and Susan Park are set to star in the series.

Genndy Tartakovsky Goes Primal: The creator of Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Laboratory, Genndy Tartakovsky, has a new animated series coming to Adult Swim. It is titled Primal and Deadline Hollywood gives the following description:

Primal features a caveman at the dawn of evolution. A dinosaur on the brink of extinction. Bonded by tragedy, this unlikely friendship becomes the only hope of survival in a violent, primordial world.

The series will likely be looking at a late 2019 or early 2020 debut.
