Sci Fi TV Development: Legion Series Moving Forward, Plus A Quatermass Reboot, A Mirror’s Edge Series and More




News, updates, and (mostly viable) rumors relating to development of science fiction / fantasy television productions. If you have tips or more info on these or other productions, please pass them along in the comments.

Development announcements have definitely slowed down with pilot season now over. But there has been some notable news over the last few weeks which I have collected below.

X-Men-Legion-QuestLegion

Network: FX

Production Team: Noah Hawley (Executive Producer), Lauren Shuler Donner (Executive Producer), Bryan Singer (Executive Producer)

Staring: Dan Stevens

Status: Early Production

About: Based on the Marvel X-Men character, this series “introduces the story of David Haller: Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.” Source: Deadline Hollywood

Comments: FX has been considering this one for a while and has now placed a straight to series order of eight episodes that will likely bow at some point in 2017.

Quatermass

Network: BBC America

Production Team: Jeremy Dyson (Writer / Executive Producer)

Status: Early Development

About: “A remake of the Brit series about a professor and his daughter who investigate an alien invasion.” Source: Variety

Comments: This one is early in the development stage and it appears to be based on the last of the Quatermass serials which originally aired in the late 70’s. BBC America would likely be looking at a 2017 bow for this reboot. You can read more on the original Quatermass at this link.

Memoria

Network: BBC America

Production Team: Adam Barken (Writer / Executive Producer), Temple Street Prods. (Production Company)

Status: Early Development

About: This series is “about a man who begins to unravel after his memories conflict with those recalled by technology.” Source: Variety

Comments: Coming from the Orphan Black production company, BBC America will likely be considering this as an entry on their schedule at some point in t 2017.

mirrors-edgeMirror’s Edge

Network: N/A

Production Team: Endemol Shine Studios (Studio)

Status: Early Development

About: “Mirror’s Edge is set in a quasi-futuristic dystopian society in which a network of “runners” act as couriers to transmit messages while evading government surveillance. The game’s main character and heroine is Faith, a runner and skilled warrior whose sister is framed for murder. The narrative follows Faith as she is drawn into the fight against the ruling Conglomerate and becomes enveloped in a conspiracy that could bring down society itself.” Source: Deadline Hollywood

Comments: This series is early in the development stage and does not have a network attached yet. If it goes forward, it would likely be looking at a 2017-18 bow.

Dimension 404

Network: Hulu

Production Team: Dan Johnson (Creator / Executive Producer), David Welch (Creator / Executive Producer), Dez Dolly (Executive Producer), Will Campos (Executive Producer)

Status: In Production

About: “Inspired by the internet’s “404” error code, “Dimension 404” aims to evoke that 3 a.m. feeling of wandering onto the weird side of the web, stumbling upon stories that cannot be explained in the world that we know. Each episode will explore a different bizarre mystery, including an obscure cartoon that may hold the secret to time travel or energy drinks perhaps causing a global apocalypse.” Source: Variety

Comments: Hulu has six episodes of this series ordered and it is currently in the casting stage with Lea Michele, Robert Buckley and Ryan Lee all already set to appear as guest stars. It will likely bow in early 2017.
