Description: Imagine the perfect American town… beautiful homes, manicured lawns, children playing safely in the streets. Now imagine never being able to leave. You have no communication with the outside world. You think you’re going insane. You must be in Wayward Pines.

Based on the best-selling novel “Pines” by Blake Crouch and brought to life by suspenseful storyteller M. Night Shyamalan (“The Sixth Sense,” “Signs”), WAYWARD PINES is the intense new mind-bending 10-episode event thriller evocative of the classic hit “Twin Peaks.” FOX.com

Why Was It Cancelled? Fans held out hope for this show despite the extended time that it took for FOX to make a decision on its fate. At the TCAs in January 2017, FOX entertainment president David Madden indicated that a third season could still happen, but it would not be in Summer 2017 because it “didn’t come together quickly enough”. Series executive producer M. Night Shyamalan had claimed that he sees this as “a three-season story” and that “if we get the opportunity to tell the third and final season, we can finish the story”.  But now it appears that will not happen unless Shyamalan shops the show around to other venues.  It’s possible that Wayward Pines got purged from the development queue because of the Disney buyout. It’s also possible that scheduling issues made it too difficult for Shyamalan to turn his attention back to the show. But the fact is that its ratings were not great in its second year and perhaps FOX just decided to close the book on this one and move on with new projects.

  1. This TV story was a travesty in comparison to the books. It’s so typical for producers and writers to fundamentally change an authors work. The books were fantastic and I would recommend anyone to read them if they liked this story.

I won’t reveal any differences in the books as it would just spoil it. All I can say is the story, the authors story, is so much better then this TV version.

    1. Did they advertise it as a *series* finale or *season* finale. If the former then that is pretty telling.
