Description: Imagine the perfect American town… beautiful homes, manicured lawns, children playing safely in the streets. Now imagine never being able to leave. You have no communication with the outside world. You think you’re going insane. You must be in Wayward Pines.

Based on the best-selling novel “Pines” by Blake Crouch and brought to life by suspenseful storyteller M. Night Shyamalan (“The Sixth Sense,” “Signs”), WAYWARD PINES is the intense new mind-bending 10-episode event thriller evocative of the classic hit “Twin Peaks.” FOX.com

News of Note: Series executive producer M. Night Shyamalan has claimed that he sees this as “a three-season story” and that “if we get the opportunity to tell the third and final season, we can finish the story”.  And at the TCAs in January 2017, FOX entertainment president David Madden indicated that a third season could still happen, but it would not be in Summer 2017 because it “didn’t come together quickly enough”. Likely there were scheduling conflicts with Shyamalan’s other projects and Wayward Pines also did not perform as well in the ratings during the second season as it did in its first. But Madden officially said that the show is “not cancelled”, so fans can still hope for at least one more season from that one.

Status: (Updated 8/1/16)  This show saw no improvement with its season finale and it has been at barely passable levels for a Summer show. It is now a waiting game to see if FOX is willing to give Shyamalan that third season he wants to tell his full story (see News of Note above). Last year, it was several months after the show wrapped up before we heard word on the Season 2 renewal, so don’t expect a quick announcement this time around.

Do not cancel wayward pines. If fox does cancel I hope Syfi picks it up.

Did they advertise it as a *series* finale or *season* finale. If the former then that is pretty telling.

This TV story was a travesty in comparison to the books. It’s so typical for producers and writers to fundamentally change an authors work. The books were fantastic and I would recommend anyone to read them if they liked this story.

I won’t reveal any differences in the books as it would just spoil it. All I can say is the story, the authors story, is so much better then this TV version.
