Description: In 1963, the U.S. government launched a covert space mission sending hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the starship Ascension to populate a new world. Nearly 50 years into the journey, as they approach the point of no return, a mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship’s population to question the true nature of their mission. Syfy.com

Why Was It Cancelled? This series seemed like one of the most heavily anticipated genre entries of the Fall 2014 season, but it ended up delivering rather tepid ratings.  It averaged a 0.5 score in the 18-49 demographic based on the overnights which is not bad for Syfy, but didn’t quite measure up to the “event” series this was supposed to be.  The network announced that it would not continue to a series claiming that “we were very happy with Ascension as an event series, but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series”.  There seems like little chance that another network or streaming service would be interested in picking it up based on its reception, so the major cliffhanger it ended on will likely never be resolved.

  1. Netflix! Please bring Ascention back! Never heard of it until it was available on Netflix and def want another season!

  2. I loved it really sucks that its cancelled please bring it back season two will be a hit and ppl will love this once it gets out more

  3. Likewise 1st saw on Netflix, wanted to see more. Loved he way things actually happened – main actors killed off Etc. And lots of attractive cast.
Bring it back I want more.

    1. And it actually had a unique plot not like so many sifi series that are just another monster/zombie battle.
Eg falling skies. Even ‘the 100’ got 2 seasons and that plot is total BS. Prisoners kept in space? Cmon.

  4. It is time Netflix picked up this show. Had great promise. Very upset that it was cancelled. It seems that anything that makes a person actually think, goes away. Is TV geared to 12 year old brains? A shame.

  5. [WARNING! SPOILERS BELOW! Admin]

For what it’s worth, add my name to the ranks of those who never heard of “Ascension” until it appeared on Netflix.

I wasn’t sure I could enjoy the show any longer once it was revealed the “crew” wasn’t in space, but I pressed on and found it remained engaging, as being earthbound obviously doesn’t altar the unique limitations and grim realities imposed by their confinement to a relatively tiny environment for the duration of their lifetimes.

My wife and I would love to see Netflix pick this up. Seems Netflix is far more committed to advertising the cancelled show than Sy-Fy was when it was still kicking!

  6. Please bring this show back. Advertising is at fault. No one heard of it until it hit Netflix. I have been waiting for a show like this. Really good plot. Maybe Netflix can pick it up. So many people are wanting more. Would be stupid to ignore this.

  7. I would say I was disappointed that they cancelled “Destiny”, I was saddened by the fact that it was a pretty good show from an established universe as far as Stargate goes. It was better though because it didn’t have the characters from SG1.

So now I have invested in Acension, not truly awesome, so many holes in the plot that need filled…hurts my head. They left it with dude on some planet or another facsimile mockup of a planet and cancelled the show. Thanks Scifi. You suck. I have an idea how about you cancel yourselves. I believe I don’t care to see how you finish either. Your programming sucks anymore. Uninteresting brain dead drinble garbage content for the intellectually immobilized.

  8. Oh wow, I just saw this on Netflix. After the season ended I looked for the next release. The fact this was cancelled, is just really disappointing. A lot of talent wasted. Would’ve definitely been more successful if it wasn’t aired on Syfy….who still watches that?

Hopefully it comes back…aired so more people can see.

    1. I cant agree more. Very disappointed its not being brought back. I never heard of it until i watched it on Netflix.

      1. Watched all episodes in a row on Netflix. I was soo frustrated when it ended. It was just awesome.
I compare it to the feeling i had after watch Games Of Throne´s Season 1´s episodes in a row and found out that Season 2 was to be released 11 months later.

In my case the discovery on Episode 2 was the positive side of my magnet.

  9. I Agree that this was a good show, every first season has rough spots. I’m an avid reader of non-fiction and Science fiction books as well as good shows. Trolls are apparently everywhere. ….

  10. It’s a pity promising sci-fi productions get canceled because the general dumb $$$ american viewer prefers “mission” based episodes, empty in content and progression, say “eureka”. Or maybe it’s more of a pity situation in the marketing department where these decisions are being made.

  11. Inside cast acting okay outside.. wtf

Bad acting bad idolog boring plot once u find out there not in space who gives a shit

Anyone who liked this show has no taste

How did the head of the department not listen to her team leader so much it’s just ignorance posing as contravercy terrible show utterly bad

    1. So…this show was genius on so many levels. We can forgive the individual pieces because the sum of those pieces created a phenomenal puzzle with a cliffhanger feeding into what would have been an even stronger second season. Please bring it back, or at the very least, make a movie like “Serenity” that followed “Firefly” and you will have a cult classic on your hands.

  12. huge fan please bring it back it will get its following in time. best show since battlestar galactica
