This Site Is on Hiatus

CancelledSciFi.com and AxiomsEdgeSciFi.com are going on hiatus while I address a copyright dispute involving images previously used on the sites.

A copyright holder has challenged my use of certain images that appeared in posts on the sites. I believed my use of the images was permissible in connection with the informational content of those posts, but that use has been disputed. I promptly removed the images after being contacted, but the copyright holder is also seeking monetary compensation and has threatened legal action. As a result, I will be consulting legal counsel and dealing with the matter while also reviewing other images used on the sites to determine whether any additional changes are appropriate. That will take away from the time I normally devote to ongoing posts.

I have been blogging for most of the past 20 years, originally on AxiomsEdgeSciFi.com before it succumbed to an egregious hack, then eventually moving to CancelledSciFi.com (which has been active since 2012) and recently reviving Axiom’s Edge Sci Fi. I have done it mostly out of a love of sci-fi TV and movies, a love of writing, and a desire to do the sites my way. I have also tried to fill a need that other genre sites were not addressing while avoiding the clickbait-style articles that force you to read several paragraphs before getting to the information you came for in order to manipulate the bounce-rate. In addition, I have avoided using AI to generate articles, with most everything posted here written by me. The sites have never been a significant source of income for me, despite all the annoying ads, and I have continued them primarily because I love writing about the genre.

Once the copyright dispute is resolved, I may resume regular posting, or I may go in a different direction. I have been tinkering with Substack lately, and I may consider shifting to that platform while leaving as much content as possible free. I will also continue the twice-weekly newsletters for now (subscribe to those free below), though I may eventually move those to Substack. I will also continue to maintain the Cancellation Watch, Sci-Fi TV Schedule, and Sci-Fi TV Premieres pages, though there will be no ongoing articles for the near future. I will also continue to post breaking news and updates on our social media sites (see below) as well r/SciFiTV and r/SciFiScroll.

I thank all of those who have followed my sites over the years, and I plan to continue in some form after all of this is resolved. But for now, I need to turn my attention to addressing the copyright matter and reviewing the sites.

Continue to trek boldly forward, and stay tuned for updates.

  1. Sorry to hear this, hope everything works out.
It’s seems so silly to me, there are shows l wouldn’t have known about if it weren’t for your website, so they are basically getting free advertising.

  2. Been there myself. Didn’t have to get counsel, though. Just removed images and showed the lawyer where I got them from online so’s they could go after them. Keep the chin up.
