Cancellation Watch: Silo Remains in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, The Librarians: The Next Chapter Could Use Some Help from Fans, and More

Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.

Status Updates

Silo (Apple TV, Status: Renewed): This post-apocalyptic series remained in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for a fifth week in a row, holding at the Number 7 slot with an estimated 437 million minutes viewed. It has already been renewed for a fourth and final season, but there are reports that a spin-off series is in the works tied to an upcoming novel from Hugh Howey, the same person who wrote the books Silo is based on.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter (TNT, Status: Renewal Possible): This series wrapped up its second season earlier this week, and there has been no word on third year renewal yet. Its linear viewing numbers have been decent for a basic cable series, averaging around a 0.07 score based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic. But TNT acquired this when The CW decided not to air the show, and it has now completed the two seasons that were originally planned. TNT has mostly backed away from scripted programming, and there is no indication at this point that they intended to keep it going further than its original order. But series creator and showrunner Dean Devlin has plans for more seasons, so there is still a chance that the story can continue. I am not moving this one to Bubble status yet, but it is close, and fans should certainly make some noise on the social networks if they want more from this one.

Futurama (Hulu, Status: Renewal Possible): This sci fi comedy did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its Season 14 premiere, but that is not uncommon with animated shows. Hulu does not have a commitment to another season at this point, but it does have three specials planned that are currently in the works. And seeing as this one has beat the odds more often than not, there is always a chance that a fifteenth season and more could still happen.
