The web has come down for Spider-Noir as Amazon has decided to cancel that superhero entry after one season. The show spent three weeks in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, rising as high as the Number 2 slot and averaging an estimated 667 million minutes of viewing per week during that time. It was also well-received, currently holding a 92% Tomoatometer Score (based on critics’ reviews) and a 90% Popcornmeter Score (based on audience response). (You can see my review at this link.) But it was an expensive series to produce, and according to Deadline it did not have “staying power” because its viewership dropped after its first three weeks. And while its numbers were decent during its three weeks on the chart, those fell short of other Amazon genre hits like The Boys and Fallout. Spider-Noir did wrap up the storylines from its first season, but it definitely set itself up to continue to a second season and beyond.
The series came as part of a partnership between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony, focused on the IP from Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel Characters. And even though it was not considered a success, more shows are under consideration from that collaboration. The Spider-Man spin-off series Silk was in development at one point, but that was cancelled in production. And while a campaign may follow to save Spider-Noir, there is very little chance that fans would be able to get it shifted to another venue because of the existing deal between Amazon and Sony.
This cancellation counts back to the recently completed 2025-26 season bring the Cancellation/Renewal Score to 16 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (23% of shows tracked) vs. 37 renewed (52%) with 18 still awaiting word on their fates. Spider-Noir is set in an alternate 1930s New York City that follows Ben Reilly, a down-on-his-luck private investigator forced to confront his past as the city’s only masked vigilante when a dangerous new case draws him back into a web of crime, corruption, and superhuman threats. It stars Nicolas Cage, Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, and Abraham Popoola, and it is based on the Marvel Comics series Spider-Man Noir.
