Why Was Talamasca: The Secret Order Be Cancelled and Can Fans Help It Continue to a Second Season?

When does Talamasca premiere on AMC?
Talamasca: The Secret Order did not draw strong viewership in its inaugural run, but it has seen a resurgence on Netflix, and a push from fans could help it get a second season.

What Is It?

This series is set in Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe, and it follows Guy Anatole, a gifted young lawyer with telepathic abilities, who is recruited into the Talamasca, a mysterious, centuries-old secret society that monitors and contains supernatural beings like vampires, witches, and demons to maintain the balance between the mortal and immortal worlds. As Guy is drawn deeper into the organization’s clandestine missions, he uncovers dark secrets about both the supernatural and his own past.

Why Was It Cancelled?

This third entry in AMC’s Immortal Universe—which includes Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches—premiered in Fall 2025, but it did not draw large viewership according to the Nielsen numbers. It averaged only a 0.02 rating (two one-hundredths of a ratings point) based on same-day viewing for the 18–49 demographic with around 200K total viewers for its linear broadcasts. That is lower than the other entries in the franchise, though not by much, as none of these shows have drawn much attention to AMC for their linear broadcasts.

It is possible that Talamasca made up some slack with digital viewing, as did the other shows, but AMC did not share those numbers and did not put out a statement to tout the viewership. For the most part, the show came and went with very little attention, even though AMC did give it a notable marketing push leading up to the premiere. Then, in March 2026, the network announced that they were cancelling the series and made the following statement:

While we are not proceeding with another season of Talamasca: The Secret Order, we are proud of the series and grateful for the efforts of everyone involved. The Talamasca has a storied place within the Anne Rice Immortal Universe, and we expect to see at least some of these characters, and the organization itself, in future expressions of the franchise.

The showrunners had plans for a second season, but it looks like that will not be happening now. I would have thought that they would have given Talamasca some leeway seeing it is part of their Immortal Universe which they have latched onto as a replacement for The Walking Dead. And Interview with the Vampire has proven quite popular, securing a fourth season renewal with plans in place for a fifth year as well. But with finances tight across the entertainment industry these days, apparently Talamasca had to be the sacrificial lamb, though the characters could still show up in the other two entries in the franchise.

What Can Fans Do to Help the Show?

The chances that the fans could change the minds of network execs on the cancellation seemed quite slim until the show recently popped up in the Netflix Top 10.  AMC has been licensing several of its properties to that streamer, and Talamasca had its premiere there the week of August 24th, placing at the Number 9 slot with 10.4 million hours watched across 2.2 million accounts. Those numbers are not spectacular, but that is at least a start.

If fans were to stage watch parties on that streaming service and get the show to hold in the Top 10 for a while, perhaps that could help give it a second chance.  Talamasca is also still streaming on AMC+, so watching it there helps as well because each view is counted without Nielsen filtering. Fans should also start making some noise on social networks to bring more attention to the show and prove that it has a strong following. AMC gave up on this one after one season, but it seems to have found new life on streaming. If fans can keep the momentum going, it is not too late to bring the cast and crew back together for a second year. But now is definitely the time to strike while the show is seeing a resurgence.
