AMC has cancelled Talamasca: The Secret Order after one season, making it the first show from the network’s Immortal Universe to come to an end. It averaged only a 0.02 rating (two one-hundredths of a ratings point) based on same-day viewing for the 18–49 demographic with around 200K total viewers for its linear broadcasts. I did not see the streaming numbers for its run on AMC+, but those apparently were not enough to help it. I had been close to moving this one to Bubble status, but I was holding off because I thought that AMC might keep it going since it is linked to their Anne Rice franchise and includes Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches. There is a chance the characters from Talamasca could carry over to those other shows, as indicated in the network’s statement on the cancellation:
While we are not proceeding with another season of Talamasca: The Secret Order, we are proud of the series and grateful for the efforts of everyone involved. The Talamasca has a storied place within the Anne Rice Immortal Universe, and we expect to see at least some of these characters, and the organization itself, in future expressions of the franchise.
Neither Interview with the Vampire (to be retitled The Vampire Lestat for its upcoming season) nor Mayfair Witches have drawn large linear viewership on AMC across their first few seasons. They may perform better on AMC+, but the network keeps those numbers under wraps. With the cancellation of Talamasca, it could be an initial sign that the franchise is stumbling, and fans may want to make some noise on the social networks to bring it more attention.
This announcement brings the Cancellation/Renewal score for the 2025-26 season to 11 cancelled and ended sci fi and fantasy entries (24% of shows tracked) vs. 26 renewed (57%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.
Talamasca: The Secret Order follows Guy Anatole, a gifted young lawyer with telepathic abilities, who is recruited into the Talamasca, a mysterious, centuries-old secret society that monitors and contains supernatural beings like vampires, witches, and demons to maintain the balance between the mortal and immortal worlds. As Guy is drawn deeper into the organization’s clandestine missions, he uncovers dark secrets about both the supernatural and his own past.
We are approaching the Upfronts in May when the networks and streaming services announce their lineups for the upcoming season, and starting to get some announcements on the current sci fi TV entries (five this week alone), so I am expecting more renewal and cancellation updates over the next month or so.
