Status Updates
Lanterns (HBO, Status: Renewal Possible): This new DC entry has gotten off to a strong start, pulling 9.3 million views over its first three days across HBO and HBO Max. That counts as the best premiere for a DC series on HBO Max and Top 5 overall for the streamer. There has been no word on a second season of this one so far, but if these numbers hold, this one could stick around for a while.
Among Us (Paramount+, Status: On the Bubble): This video game-based animated series arrived in June with almost no advance push from Paramount+, and it did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for its first-season run. The showrunner has plans for a second year, approaching it as a season-long anthology format. But it does not appear that the streaming service is being very support of the show. I have moved it to Bubble status, and fans should make some noise on the social networks to bring this one more attention if they want it to continue to a second season.
Rick & Morty (Adult Swim, Status: Renewed): This series made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for acquired shows for the week of its Season 9 finale, placing at Number 8 with an estimated 556 million minutes viewed. It has already been renewed through its twelfth season. Note that spin-off series President Curtis premiered that week but did not make it into the Nielsen charts. That one has been renewed through its second season.
Talamasca: The Secret Order (Netflix, Status: Encore Run): This spin-off from AMC’s Immortal Universe had its premiere on Netflix last week and placed in that streamer’s Top 10 at Number 9 with 10.4 million hours watched across 2.2 million accounts. The show was cancelled by AMC earlier this year, but this proves that it definitely has an audience. If fans can keep this one in the Netflix rankings for a few more weeks, perhaps AMC will reconsider its decision to truncate the series after one season.

There were no cancellation or renewal announcements this past week, so that brings the score for the just-ended 2025-26 season to 37 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (52% of shows tracked) vs. 15 cancelled and ending (21%) with 19 still waiting for word on their fates.
