Status Updates
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe (HBO Max, Status: Renewal Possible): This third Big Bang Theory spin-off, and the first that is a streaming exclusive, got off to a decent start with 3.1 million views for its premiere episode in the first six days according to Luminate. That makes it the fourth most-watched season premiere for an HBO Max original behind The Pitt Season 2, And Just Like That… Season 2, and Peacemaker Season 2. We have not seen the Nielsen numbers for the show yet (those run on about a one month delay), but this is a strong early indicator for the sci fi comedy, and if the numbers hold up, this one could continue to a second season.
Silo (Apple TV, Status: Renewed): This post-apocalyptic series peaked into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings at the Number 10 slot for the week of its third season premiere, pulling in an estimated 385 million minutes of viewing. It releases episodes on a weekly basis, so it may continue to lurk around the lower rungs of the chart for the next few weeks. It has been renewed for a fourth season and will conclude at that point.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Paramount+, Status: Renewed): The fourth season premeire for this Nu Trek series pulled in 1.2 million views across its first five days according to Luminate. That is 100K lower than its third season and also lower than the premiere of Starfleet Academy which had two million views over the same timeframe. It is also well below the popular Taylor Sheridan shows that dominate that service. Strange New Worlds has already been renewed for a shortened fifth season, and it will wrap up at that point.
House of the Dragon (HBO, Status: Renewed): This Game of Thrones spin-off hit the top of the Nielsen chart for acquired shows for the first time in its third season (knocking out the encore run of The Last Ship on Netflix), pulling in a season-high 969 million minutes of viewing. It has already been renewed for a fourth season, and that will be its last.

There were no renewal or cancellation announcements this last week, and with the 2025-26 season coming to an end after July, I did some cleanup of the list. I removed 3 Body Problem which was supposed to premiere that season but got pushed and which is already renewed through a third year. That has the score currently at 35 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (49% of shows tracked) vs. 15 cancelled and ending (21%) with 21 still waiting for word on their fates. Below are the season’s numbers, and you can see the full list of shows and keep up with the score for the current and prior seasons throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.
