Coming as no surprise, AMC has given a fourth season renewal to its supernatural drama Interview with the Vampire, and to drive people like myself crazy who cover television shows, they will be renaming it Queen of the Damned. The third season was renamed to The Vampire Lestat as it covered the events of that Anne Rice book, and the next season will cover the book it is named for. I will continue to refer to the show as Interview with the Vampire, though, and use the new names as subtitles. This renewal was pretty much expected seeing as president of AMC Studios Dan McDermott had said the show had exceded viewership expectations and he had indicated it would return for more seasons, with Queen of the Damned was one of the stories they were considering covering. Taking over as showrunner will be Hannah Moscovitch who wrote for the first two seasons and executive produced the third. Previous showrunner Rolin Jones will be executive producing the upcoming season.
McDermott had the following to say about the show in a press release:
In The Vampire Lestat, Mark, Rolin, Hannah and this extraordinary cast delivered an unforgettable season filled with propulsive storytelling that captivated the passionate and engaged fans of this franchise. We can’t wait to continue the journey with Queen of the Damned, one of the most iconic stories in Anne Rice’s mythology, and watch our established and beloved characters confront Akasha with their world, and ours, very much hanging in the balance.
The third season just ended, and AMC will likley be targeting a mid to late 2027 return for the show.
This announcement brings the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the 2025-26 season to 37 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (60% of shows tracked) vs. 14 cancelled and ending (23%). Interview with the Vampire follows vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac as he recounts his long and troubled life to journalist Daniel Molloy, including his intense relationship with the charismatic but dangerous Lestat de Lioncourt and their complicated existence with the young vampire Claudia. It stars Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, Bailey Bass, Eric Bogosian, and Sheila Atim and it is based on the Vampire Chronicles books by Anne Rice.
