Status Updates
Widow’s Bay (Apple TV, Status: Renewed): This horror dramedy made it to the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its Season 1 finale, landing at the Number 8 slot with an estimated 415 million minutes watched. That was its first week in the charts, likely helped there by the positive word-of-mouth that built up during its first year. It has already been renewed for a second season, and work will be starting on that shortly.
House of the Dragon (HBO/HBO Max, Status: Renewed): This Game of Thrones prequel series returned to the Nielsen chart for the week of its third season premiere, landing at Number 4 in the rankings for acquired shows and pulling in 636 million minutes of viewing. That was likely mostly people catching up on prior seasons, though, because the Season 3 premiere episode only became available at the end of the week. This one has already been renewed for a fourth year, and it will be wrapping up at that point.
Sugar (Apple TV, Status: Renewal Possible): This sci fi noir series returned for its second season last month and pulled in 1.6 million viewers over its first six days according to Luminate. That has it in the lower half of Apple TV shows looking back to 2024, but it is above For All Mankind Season 5 and Foundation Season 3, and both of those were renewed. Sugar is likely less expensive to produce than those, so that should improve its chances of getting a third year nod. But it would certainly help if fans made some noise on the social networks to bring this one more attention.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix, Status: Renewed): This live-action reboot held at the Number 4 slot in the Netflix Top 10 in its fourth week, pulling in 25 million hours viewed across 3.6 million accounts. Its per week average is down notably from its first year, (50 million hours vs. 74 million hours), likely because of the long wait between seasons. But it has already been renewed for a third season and it will wrap up at that point.
