Cancellation Watch: The Terror Could Continue to Season 4, The Beauty Could Be Done at FX, and More

Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.

Status Updates

The Terror (Shudder, Status: Renewal Likely): This season-long horror anthology received a positive update as executive producer David W. Zucker has said that the show is moving forward with its fourth season and that they “just closed the deal on the book we’re gonna develop next”, though the book has not been not revealed yet. This does not count as an official renewal yet, but it certainly moves the needle closer in that direction, and it appears that fans of the show will have a much shorter wait for the fourth season than they did for the third.

The Beauty (FX, Status: Cancellation Likely): There has been no word on this Ryan Murphy series since it wrapped up its first season in March, and the likelihood of it continuing to second season seems very slim at this point. It did pull in decent viewership for a basic cable entry these days, but I have not seen any streaming numbers, and FX have been mostly quiet about the show. Along with that, they just released the cast and crew from their contracts which almost certainly suggests that cancellation is the next step. If there are any fans of this one out there, they should certainly make some noise on the social networks to bring it more attention as it appears it could become the next one-and-done genre entry cut down too soon.

Spider Noir (Prime Video, Status: Renewal Possible): This dark superhero series slipped to the Number 8 slot in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings in its third week with an estimated 410 million minutes of viewing. That is a 45% drop from the prior week, but this one released all of its episodes at one time and it averaged over 800 million minutes of viewing across its first two weeks. It is not pulling The Boys level numbers, and it is an expensive series to produce, but it may still be performing well enough to earn a second season.
