Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.
Status Updates
Devil May Cry (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This anime entry entered the Netflix Top 10 for the week of its second season premiere, landing at the Number 6 slot with 19.4 million hours viewed across 4.1 million households. There are reports that the show has already been renewed for a third season, though the streamer has not made an official announcement yet. Based on these numbers, it seems like the show will continue and could stick around for a few more seasons.
Revival (Syfy, Status: Cancelled): First announced in our weekly email newsletter, Revival appears to be done at Syfy. The Upfronts—where the networks and streaming services announce their upcoming lineups—have come and gone, and those brought no word on the fate this supernatural series with touches of sci fi. That show premiered in June of 2025 with little in the way of promotion, though it did start to develop a small following and some decent buzz. Its linear ratings were low throughout its ten-episode run, but because the show was getting good marks from fans and critics, I was thinking Syfy might give it a second season to help it build up its audience. But there has been no news for nearly a year, and by this time the cast and crew have likely been released from their contracts. I am moving this one to Cancelled status as it appears that Syfy is moving away from scripted programming (they only have The Ark on their schedule at this point which returns for its third season in July). Fans may want to make some noise in support of Revival to bring it some attention, as it is possible that another venue could take a flyer on the show.
The Miniature Wife (Peacock, Status: Renewal Possible): This sci fi comedy made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings the week after its series premiere, placing at Number 9 with an estimated 351 million minutes of viewing. Those are decent numbers for a Peacock original and could have this one on the way to a second season renewal. Note that The Copenhagen Test–also from Peacock–had a similar performance in the charts and was cancelled, but it is a more expensive series to produce.
The Boys (Prime Video, Status: Final Season): This superhero series held steady in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings at Number 2 for a second week in a row, pulling in an estimated 918 million minutes of viewing. The fifth and final season has been receiving some criticism from fans, and the early Nielsen numbers are lower than the fourth season, but according to Amazon, the series has reached viewership highs. Their measurements show that Season 5 has averaged 57 million viewers per week across its first five weeks, and that has pushed it into the Top 10 all-time among Prime Video originals. This one releases its series finale today, but two spin-offs are in the works–Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico–with more likely on the way.

Cancellation/Renewal Score:
Silo Season 3 is set to premiere in July, and I had not previously factored in the Season 4 renewal to the score. Adding that in brings the current season to 32 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (57% of shows tracked) vs. 14 cancelled and ending (25%). The cancellation for Revival counts back to the 2024-2025 season. Below are this season’s numbers, and you can see the list of shows and keep up with the score for the current and prior seasons throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.
| Show Count | 56 | ||
| Cancelled | 6 | 10.7% | |
| Ending | 8 | 14.3% | 25.0% |
| Renewed | 32 | 57.1% | |
| On the Bubble | 1 | 1.8% | |
| Renewal Possible | 9 | 16.1% | |
| Mini-Series | 2 |
