One Piece has been renewed for Season 3 ahead of its Season 2 premiere

Cancellation Watch: One Piece Tops the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, The Beauty Could Use Help from Fans, and More

Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.

Status Updates

One Piece (Netflix, Status: Renewed): This live-action anime adaptation topped the Nielsen streaming charts, pulling in an estimated 1.6 billion minutes of viewing for the first week of its second season. It has already spent five weeks in the Netflix Top 10, averaging 64 million hours of viewing per week. It has been renewed for a third season–which is currently in production–and it could continue beyond that.

The Beauty (FX, Status: On the Bubble): I found a new source with ratings for the broadcast networks and cable channels (ustvdb.com), and according to that, this horror entry averaged a 0.05 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 270K total viewers. Those are not terrible numbers for basic cable these days, but they are not spectacular either. There has been no word on a second season of this show, but series star Ashton Kutcher has said that he would like to return. I am expecting we should hear something on this one around the time of the Disney Upfronts in May, and fans should certainly start making some noise on the social networks if they want it to return for a second season.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV, Status: Renewal Possible): This Monsterverse entry dropped out of the Nielsen Streaming Rankings after one week, having only just scraped the bottom of that chart at Number 10 in the second week of its second season. It still has been performing well for an Apple TV entry, though, and a third season of this one is still possible.

It: Welcome to Derry (HBO, Status: Renewal Possible): There has been no word on a second season of this one, but I expect we will hear something around the time of the Upfronts in May. It averaged 653 million minutes of streaming viewing per week across the three weeks it was in the Nielsen charts, and in linear viewing, it averaged a 0.09 score in the demo with 321 million total viewers. Work has begun on a second season of the show, but it has not received an official announcement from HBO. This is another one that could certainly use a Call to Action from fans to push the network execs towards a renewal.
