Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.
Status Updates
The Copenhagen Test (Peacock, Status: Renewal Possible): According to data from Luminate, this series drew an estimated 1.1 billion minutes of viewing for the week of December 26th to January 1st. Nielsen had it at an estimated 373 million minutes for the week of December 29th to January 4th (the week after it premiered), but that is for the U.S. audience only (and it dropped out of the charts the next week). The Luminate numbers appear to include global viewing, though, and that represents a strong start for this spy fi entry. It ended its first season with a cliffhanger, and these viewership stats suggest that the show has a decent chance of continuing to a second season.
Fallout (Prime Video, Status: Renewed): This series slipped to Number 6 in the fourth week of its second season, but viewership is still strong at an estimated 855 million minutes and 3.5 million cumulative so far in its sophomore year. And Amazon is claiming that it is the sixth most-watched season of a Prime Video original ever. It has already been renewed for a third season, and I expect this one to stick around beyond that.
Gen V (Prime Video, Status: Renewal Possible): Amazon has said nothing yet about a third season of this spin-off from The Boys, and its numbers were down in its second year. I am not moving it to Bubble status just yet, but fans may want to make some noise to bring it more attention and help convince the streamer to keep the show going.
11.22.63 (Netflix, Status: Encore Run): This time-traveling mini-series which first streamed on Hulu in 2016 made an appearance in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings the week of its premiere on Netflix, landing at the Number 7 slot with 848 million minutes viewed. Interestingly, it did not show up in the Netflix Top 10 that week, but all five seasons of Stranger Things were still dominating viewership for the streamer, so those might have pushed it out. The mini-series was closed-ended, wrapping up the story based on the Stephen King book, so it seems unlikely that this surge in interest will result in any sort of revival.
