The ratings for Talamasca: The Secret Order are low. Will it get cancelled?

Status Updates

Talamasca: The Secret Order (AMC, Status: Renewal Possible): The latest entry in AMC’s Immortal Universe–based on characters by Anne Rice–has gotten off to a slow start. The show has only posted a 0.02 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic for its first two airings, averaging 211K total viewers per week or less. That is lower than what Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches saw last season, though not by much as both had a 0.03 score as their average. These shows allegedly perform better in streaming on AMC+, though the network has been stingy about releasing those numbers. I will not be putting Talamasca to Bubble status just yet, as AMC does seem to be supporting this franchise. But if its numbers sink lower, that could change.

Halo (Paramount+/Netflix, Status: Cancelled): This show improved to Number 3 in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings now that it is available on Netflix, pulling in an estimated 517 million minutes of viewing. Fans should definitely take this as an opportunity for a Call to Action and should start making some noise on the social networks to convince Netflix to produce a third season seeing as Paramount+ cancelled it after two seasons.

It: Welcome to Derry (HBO, Status: Renewal Possible): The curious onlooker effect took place for this show as its linear ratings dropped notably with its second episode. The show scored only a 0.03 rating in the demo, a drop of 70%, and 155K total viewers, a drop of 54%. This tends to happen when a well-known property first premieres and draws a fair number of curious onlookers early, only to see them abandon the show after an episode or two. HBO claims that the premiere pulled in 5.7 million viewers over its first three days of streaming on HBO Max, so we will have to wait and see how the viewership tracks on that platform. HBO does not pay as much attention to the overnights because it is not beholden to advertisers, but those do tend to act as a leading indicator, and they suggest that interest in the show may have dropped off quickly.

Peacemaker (HBO Max, Status: Ended): This DC Universe entry finally made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the final week of its second season, but just barely as it punched its way to the Number 10 slot with an estimated 398 million minutes viewed. James Gunn has already indicated that there are currently no plans for a third season, and that the second-year cliffhanger will get resolved in one or more of the upcoming films in the franchise.

The Witcher (Netflix, Status: Renewed): The fourth season of this show took the top spot in the Netflix charts for its second week, though viewrship numbers remained basically the same as the prior week at 53.4 million hours watched across 7.4 million accounts. The numbers are down from the third season, but this one has been renewed through its fifth and final season, and work has already begun on that.

  1. Just a note on the Witcher season 5: The entire season has already been filmed. So don’t worry about that showing up or not, it will. They’ve been doing CGI and post for months now.
