Viewership has dropped notably for The Witcher in Season 4. Will it get cancelled?

Cancellation Watch: The Witcher Returns Down for Netflix, It: Welcome to Derry Starts Strong for HBO Max, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

The Witcher (Netflix, Status: Renewed): This fantasy series returned for its fourth season last week with Liam Hemsworth taking over the lead role from Henry Cavill, and viewership took a notable drop. The show landed at the Number 2 slot with 53.2 million hours across 7.4 million accounts which represents a drop of 27% in hours watched and 51% in accounts watching from the Season 3 premiere week. It is also not scoring well on Rotten Tomatoes, currently holding 58% Tomatometer Score and 19% Audience Score for its fourth season. The show has already been renewed for a fifth and final season, and that will likely still go forward, though don’t be surprised if the episode count is cut.

It: Welcome to Derry (HBO, Status: Renewal Possible): The overnight ratings for this horror prequel’s premiere episode were not that great, posting a 0.10 score based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 334K total viewers. But the show did pull in 5.7 million viewers over its first three days of streaming according to HBO Max. That puts it as the third most-matched premiere on that service after House of the Dragon and The Last of Us, and off to a good start. At this point, a second season renewal looks like a good bet for this one.

Gen V (Prime Video, Status: Renewal Possible): This spin-off from The Boys crept back into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the third week of its second season, placing at Number 10 with an estimated 400 million minutes of viewing. It still has a chance of continuing to a third (and likely final) season at this point, or it is possible that they decide to wrap up its storylines in the coming fifth season of the parent series.

Halos (Paramount+/Netflix, Status: Cancelled): This video game-based series has returned to the Nielsen charts, placing at Number 6 in the most recent set of rankings with an estimated 562 million minutes of viewing. Nielsen only shows Paramount+ as the streaming service, but I am pretty sure the bump came because the show became available on Netflix the first week of October. Fans should take this as an opportunity for a Call to Action and should start making some noise on the social networks to convince Netflix to produce a third season seeing as Paramount+ cancelled it after two seasons.
