Sci Fi TV News of Note:

Horror legend John Carpenter has come onboard as executive producer for a new season-long horror anthology series that will have his name attached. John Carpenter Presents was created by Michael Amo (The Listener) and Will Pascoe (Orphan Black), and both will act as showrunners. Following is the description of the first season according to The Hollywood Reporter:

Season 1 will be set in the remote wilderness of Alaska. As a diverse group of characters face a chilling mix of supernatural and existential terror, the anthology series will explore the hidden fears and social anxieties of our time.

This is being produced by Elevation Pictures, and while no network or streaming service is attached at this point, it should draw plenty of interest.

If you think that the entertainment industry has taken product tie-ins as far as they could possibly go, then think again. A live-action television series is in the works based on the Magic 8 Ball toy. Here is the description according to Deadline:

[The series] will reimagine the classic Magic 8 Ball as the centerpiece of a high-concept, character-driven supernatural drama that blends psychological intensity with cultural intrigue.

M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) and Brad Falchuk (American Horror Story) have come onboard to helm the show, so it does have some notable talent involved. It is being produced by Mattel Studios, and no network or streaming service is attached at this point. But… they can just use the Magic 8 Ball to guide them in the right direction!

Production has begun on the reboot of The X-Files in the works from Ryan Coogler, and you can read about that and more in our latest Sci Fi TV Production Report. In other production news, House of the Dragon Season 3 has wrapped filming which should have it on track for a 2026 premiere.

In scheduling news, the second season of Netflix’s animated Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft has received a premiere date of December 11th.  That will be the final season for the show.
