Sci Fi TV Production Report: Work Begins on Booster Golds and Assassin’s Creed

Sci Fi TV Production Report: Tracking the sci fi and fantasy shows currently moving into development/production based on the listings from Production Weekly. Note that appearing on that list does not guarantee that the series will move forward.

Following are the genre entries of note included in the listings for July 24th:

Booster Gold (HBO)

HBO is moving forward with plans to produce a pilot for a Booster Gold TV series, and that is now showing up on the current Production Weekly list. Deadline gives the following description for the series:

Michael Jon “Booster” Carter is a member of the Justice League born in Gotham City who attends university on a football scholarship. He is expelled for gambling and becomes a superhero, although continues to irritate others with his obsession for fame and wealth. His nickname came via Ronald Reagan after he saved the former POTUS.

David Jenkins (People of Earth, Our Flag Means Death) is writing the pilot and will be showrunner if it goes to series. There have been no casting announcements yet, but those should be coming soon.

Assassin’s Creed (Netflix)

An Assassin's Creed TV series is in the works at Netflix

The long-in-the-works Assassin’s Creed television series is finally moving forward at Netflix, and it is showing up on this week’s Production Weekly list. It was first announced five years ago and has gone through several creative teams so far. Following is the official logline for the series:

Assassin’s Creed is centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.

Roberto Patino (DMZWestworld) and David Wiener (Halo: The Series) are the current showrunners/executive producers tasked with getting the series up and running. This one will likely be looking at a late 2026 or early 2027 premiere, assuming there are no further setbacks.

Other genre entries from the listings for July 24th: The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 (AMC).
