What Is It?
This series follows an extraterrestrial being who crash-lands on Earth and takes over the identity of a doctor named Harry. He is on a mission to kill all humans on the planet, but his resolve starts to waver as he spends more time with the people he was sent to destroy.

Why Is It in Danger?
Resident Alien premiered on Syfy back in the winter of 2021 and turned into a hit for the network out of the gate. Fan-favorite Alan Tudyk led the sci-fi comedy that many found quite delightful, and it received renewals for both a second and third season. The viewership numbers did drop each year (in part because of Syfy’s lack of promotion), and by its third season, the audience was down to less than half of what it saw in its first year. The network went silent on the show after it wrapped its third year, and there were doubts about whether Syfy would bring it back. Finally, in June 2024, a fourth season renewal was announced—but the show was switching networks to USA and taking a “significant budget reduction.” So the renewal didn’t come with a vote of confidence, and I expected the fourth season to eventually be announced as the show’s last.
That didn’t happen, though, and Resident Alien started its run on USA (with a simulcast on Syfy) in June 2025. The viewership slipped from the prior season, but when the Syfy broadcasts were factored in, the numbers were not too far off. In addition, the show started its fourth season airing Fridays at 11 PM EST, which is outside of Prime Time and likely not drawing in premium ad rates from sponsors (that switched to 10 PM EST starting July 4th). The current season received good marks from critics and viewers, but the late scheduling suggested the show was more of an afterthought for the network and I moved it to Bubble status early on. I was working under the assumption that the creative team was approaching the fourth season as the show’s last, and that proved to be true as confirmed by the showrunner after USA officially cancelled it ahead its season finale.
What Can Fans Do to Help the Show?
If fans want Resident Alien to stick around for a fifth season (and possibly more), the best thing they can do is watch it while the current season is airing. They should stage watch parties during the live broadcasts and get the show trending on social media to bring it more attention. Of course, unless you are a Nielsen family, that won’t help the overnight ratings, but the social media presence can give it a boost. Even more importantly, fans should watch the current season episodes on Peacock as they become available. They hit streaming a week after broadcast, and if you watch it there, your viewership will be counted.
Going back and watching prior seasons on Peacock will help as well, and if enough people stream it there, the show could make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings. The first three seasons are available on Netflix, and that is a venue to target as a possible savior for the show. If it does show up in the Nielsen charts, that would certainly make a case for a fifth season. Any other means of getting the show to go viral would help as well (more on that at this link). Resident Alien has been well-regarded throughout its run, but its audience has definitely trailed off. The showrunner has said that a movie continuation is “plausible”, and if fans can prove that there are still plenty of people watching the show, perhaps that or fifth season could happen.
Where Can You Watch It?
New episodes air Fridays at 10 PM EST on USA and also on Syfy, and the current season will run through August 8th. As mentioned above, those episodes are available a week later on Peacock, and prior seasons are streaming there as well. The first three seasons of the show are streaming on Netflix.

Reality TV makes me ill and I refuse to watch it and lose brain cells! Alan Tudyk fits this role PERFECTLY! His facial expressions and acting is better than Jim Carrey!!
I just started watching Resident Alien this year and binge watched all the episodes on Netflix just in time to start with season 4 on USA. It has been a long time since I enjoyed a TV show as much as I do this one!! Please give this show a Season 5!!!!!!
I have been watching Resident Alien from the beginning and love the show. It is something different, hilarious and I love all the crazy, wonderful characters. I have loved Alan Tudyk since Firefly. It deserves to continue it’s engaging, crazy, hilarious story.
It is a breath of fresh air in today’s TV landscape. Entertaining, well acted and tremendously funny are some descriptive thoughts that come to mind. I hope it runs for 10 more years!
Love this series. I was surprised when they didn’t write Max and Rahma’s very out of place growth into the script as being a side effect of stealing Harry’s alien ball. Their parents could have been all concerned about it and taken them to a doctor who mysteriously finds nothing wrong with them. Season 4 is only a month after season three ends as Harry is only in jail for a month. The kids suddenly being grown up with no mention of it by the other characters seems awkward. Unless I missed something?
They could even have had an episode where somehow the kids would have to choose between getting their younger bodies back and letting Harry have his alien body reinstated and they altruistically choose for Harry to be an alien again, thus stepping out of childhood forever. They could have gotten into deep discussions about the pros and cons of being a kid vs being an adult, bullying/fitting in at schools, homeschooling, having a grown up body but not being ready for adulthood, all kinds of stuff. Just seems like a missed opportunity…but I’m not a writer and I am very much enjoying the show so far in season 4. I really hope that there will be a season five.

Love, love, love Resident Alien, but S4 4 has been a slight disappointment. Making Harry human took away a lot of the edge. Alan Tudyk is a comedic genus and I feel this twist has taken a lot of that from him. Also, I feel the same about Sheriff Mike. His crazy observations and one liners were hilarious, but they seem to have been dialed back.
Not sure what the rest of S4 holds, but Harry needs to become alien again.
I very recently stumbled across RA on Peacock looking for something to watch. So glad I took a chance on it. I was hooked after the first episode. I’ve tried to start watching so many different shows in the past that couldn’t keep me interested. I actially came across this article doing a little deep dive into the show to learn more about it. I’m only on season 2, but so long as it doesn’t jump the shark, like so many shows eventually do, I’m happy to keep watching.
Please don’t cancel this show. Every decent show that comes on gets cancelled. My husband and I love watching this.
So, my comment may not be the most popular, but please hear me out.
I am extremely fond of the show. So much so, I have gotten my mom and sister into it, who also love it. That said, as I watch season 4 I have one fear. Character progression. Unfortunately, character progression always translates into poorer story writing. I feel like they have progressed too quickly. The reason other shows lasted so long was that they built characters slower and took longer to tell their tale. In Resident Alien we have come too far too quick.
I worry a season 5 (and possibly 6) would have too weak story lines with no direct ties to the original shows path(s). I only say this because of ALL the shows they do this to. Good characters become changed and annoying. Alan Tudyk is a talent. The others in the show play their characters very well. I want to see a show ending that compliments all of them, not gets lazy in story telling just to be on.
So said, please understand I say this as a true fan of a terrific show.
I totally agree,and I really find season 4 writing has gone off the rails character wise. One big mistake was Harry becoming human. He’s lost his comedic energy and they could have allowed him to be able to transform into his Alien form. All they did was make his character pathetic, and Terry O’ Quinns just a broken down wreck. It’s just sad to watch now. Harrys bird girlfriend was just gross vomiting into the plastic bag. NOT FUNNY!! So get the show back on its rails, or there won’t be a season 5. Àsta’s Father also last his MoJo along with too much weight. The pacing just went fast and off the rails.
My favorite show!!! Its true…it’s not advertised enough and I thought it was gonna be on Netflix. I had to download the Syfy to watch it. I couldn’t find the usa network app.
I just watch S 1-3 on Netflix, but discovered S4 on Prime Video.
My son and I are really enjoying Resident Alien!!! We watched the whole series and are watching the current season. We truly hope that there will be a 5th season and beyond 🚀

My husband and I only watch a few shows and RA has been one of our main must-watch shows since S1. Finding it has been an act of real detective work, Deputy Liv level of challenge. I love it’s quirky mix of the absurd and tenderness. I have to rewind sometimes when I laugh and miss stuff. If this show gets cancelled, Harry is right and that humans really are stupid. It would be some real bullshit.

Love this show! The acting and humor is top notch. Love all the characters . Have gotten several people to watch it even though it wouldn’t ordinarily be their choice of viewing.

I didn’t even realize the 4th Season started! Obviously they are not promoting it well at all. I love this show! I love the cast. I love laughing and this show makes me laugh especially, Sheriff Mike Thompson, and of course Harry is hilarious! I will definitely go start watching on Peacock since we don’t have USA. And, no wonder viewership is down airing at 11pm est.I really hope these networks stop cancelling all the great shows!!! It’s so frustrating.

Love the show , it does needs more promoting, especially with where and what time to watch . I had a hard time figuring out where to watch it at. The show is funny and got good suspense in it. The writers have a good show here, and I hope it doesn’t get canceled. Here lately shows that are good, I have noticed have been getting cancelled . I can tell Resident Alien has had budget cuts, making Harry be human more. and some of the other Aliens stay in human form alot more too. This is a great show, and am watching it weekly , once I found out where to stream it from. I do watch it after it airs tho on streaming, cause I did try to find where it streams s it live on, and could not for the life of me figure out where at, still. If this was advertised better on where to stream at, I think there would be alot more viewers. Good actors, good story line

resident alien is one of my favorite shows. one of the few with low violence, good writing and character development. All the characters are likable and funny. Exceptional cast.
But networks are doing their best to make it difficult. Worst broadcast times, unpredictable release dates. For the majority of us who prefer to stream shows on our own schedule….This belongs on Netflix, not Peacock. Peacock is overpriced and has way too many obnoxious commercials on their “Premium” service. NBC Network management has really fallen!

So many fantastic shows are being canceled, I don’t understand why. Resident Alien is absolutely one of the best shows on television, and for them to even think about canceling it is a tragedy. I do not understand why shows like this, that are actually family friendly, and present positive messages are being canceled, yet shows with extreme violence and material it’s inappropriate for children are being renewed season after season.
Love this show. I watch it on Hulu SyFy. Too soon to cancel. Is Harry going to get his Alien self back? Looking forward to each Episode. BTW, Liv looks terrific. Love Linda Hamilton on here, also.
People prefer not thinking. Reality shows and mindless violence their go to 🫤 those of us who prefer a good show are short changed with cancellations.
Love the show, but disappointed in this season. The characters have lost their inner strength and there is not as much excitement in the episodes as previous three seasons. Still watching but it just seems flat. Hoping it picks up. Especially disappointed in the mayor and wife characters who previously had to pull together to attack the people who were going to hurt their son.

This series is one of the most refreshing, creative approaches to satiric comedy. Alan Tudyk is a master actor/comedian, and I’ve enjoyed his performances in everything I’ve seen.
The writers couldn’t be more talented, keeping audiences in their toes as the plot evolves.
I really hope the networks begin to recognize the genius of the storyline and the actors able to pull it off.
At a time when so many of us are afraid of “aliens” “invading” our shores, so sure they want to destroy us, how can anyone miss the parallel in this storyline. While it’s true he first comes to Earth with the intention of killing humans, his becoming human turns him around. I would want to see if he learns to protect humanity if he regains his alien powers. In the meantime, it keeps me laughing every episode.

I loved resident alien! Last season I tried to watch it and it was very difficult to find when and where without paying outrageous fees. I wish it was on some free network or one that I already have a membership to. I was so thrilled to be able to watch it on Netflix and I’m hoping that this current season will soon be on Netflix. There’s just something special about that show that really makes me laugh and I think our country could use some laughter!

Please don’t cancel this show!! We have watched it so many times on netflix!! It is on so late that we stream it the next day. It is refreshing to have a show that kids, to elderly watch it. Get it to a better time, and it will be watched by millions!!!
We live this show and become invested in the characters. A 5th season would be great. I think cameo appearance from other we’ll known actors from popular previous Syfy shows or sitcoms would really boost the viewership. Imagine if they had Scully and Mulder do a comedic episode or two. The X-File fans would go nuts. Or even a Bing Bang cast of astrophysicist caught up in some type of goofy alien mayhem? The possibilities are endless. There is a huge crowd of Syfy fans out there that would love to see their old space-age characters brought back to life, if only for an episode or two.
I’m completely addicted to the show, I love it! I’ve watched every episode over and over. I hope there will be a 5th+ seasons to come.

I absolutely love Resident Alien! So much fun. All of the characters on it are so relatable and entertaining. I find the diversity of the friendships add so much to the storyline.

I only discovered this show recently, but am already caught up. I watch it on Peacock however because of it late scheduled viewing time. I generally retire at 10 p.m. so having it on at 11 pm isn’t an option. Even moving it up to 10 pm isn’t much better. I do hope it gets renewed but they need to move it to a more convenient time frame.
Seasons 1-3 are also on Netflix.

Resident Alien was the first (and still the all time fav) SyFy that captured my husband’s attention & led his foray into watching SyFy more & more. I personally do not care for this category of of entertainment until my husband kept telling me about how each episode he watching and the humor he found in the character Harry. He kept telling me I need to watch it with him, so I finally agreed and after the first episode I was hooked. Resident Alien is more that just sci-fi to me – it’s hilarious, romantic, mysterious, dramatic and fantasy. I hope others will discover it to enjoy the journey it takes you on. Because of Resident Alien alone my husband got me to also watch the sci-fi series The Oroville. However this is where my interest in sci-fi ends. I hope that they both return with many more seasons to keep all current and future viewers seriously entertained! Yes, the 11pm is too late so we record the show to watch the next day.

Wife & I been watching Resident Alien ever since season one was over, so we’ve zoomed it through Netflix. So, caught up to it & season 4 came out which is good. But disappointing on late night on Friday & have to wait a week to watch on Peacock. So I recorded it every week on Friday so we can watch it the next day or so, but a week later? Come on. Peacock needs to air it the next day, like Hulu does. It’ll get better streaming counts it quicker than waiting a week.
I love the show! Since it’s been hopping networks I have decided just to purchase it in DVD when each season comes out. My basic cable doesn’t have peacock and I have trouble staying up that late to see it air.

We love the wry humor, the silliness, and especially the running serious plot. Give Katy back her baby!! It’s driving us crazy!! We love Darcy, the two comic relief sheriffs and those amazing kids!! RA has a very clever and well balanced talent for weaving humor into and throughout very dramatic personal themes, which almost no shows know how to do anymore. It’s wonderful!! People miss being thoroughly entertained like this!! And, people also greatly miss family shows they can watch together!!! Clean, funny, sad, intriguing and very fresh and current…that’s RA!! KEEP IT GOING…PLEASE!!

I love resident alien, is a different way of seeing the presence of live outside earth. The casts is so interesting so funny/serious/crazy in a special way. It is like how we are thinking on finding aliens in our community!?.
