KAOS was cancelled by Netflix after one season, but perhaps the fans can save it.

Why Was KAOS Cancelled and Can It Be Saved?

KAOS delivered a unique take on Greek mythology driven by a wicked sense of humor, but it was sadly cut short by Netflix.

What Is It?

This urban fantasy delivers a modern-day contemporary retelling of Greek mythology in which Zeus starts to worry about losing his control over the world as both humans and gods scheme against him.

Aired: Netflix, 2024, 1 Season Totaling 8 Episodes

Created By: Charlie Covell

Starring: Jeff Goldblum, Janet McTeer, Cliff Curtis, David Thewlis, Killian Scott, Stephen Dillane, Aurora Perrineau

Why Was It Cancelled?

This series arrived on Netflix in August of 2024 and drew notable viewership, spending four weeks on the Netflix charts with an average of 25 million hours watched per week and three weeks in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings with an average of 576 million minutes per week. Those are good numbers for an unknown property that received very little advance promotion, and I thought it was on the way to a second-season renewal. But then actress Aurora Perrineau put up an Instagram post indicating that the show was cancelled, and that was later confirmed by Deadline. Creator Charlie Covell had two more seasons of the show planned, but Netflix decided to cut that short. He put out the following statement on Instagram after the cancellation:

Netflix did not give a reason for the cancellation, but the show was very expensive to produce, and they set a high bar for their originals. In addition, apparently KAOS was somewhat of a love-it-or-hate-it show, with some fans rather passionate about its unique take on Greek mythology (myself included), while others found it confusing and just rather odd. Ultimately, that led to this one becoming yet another one-and-done original series that was cut short by an “Off With Their Heads!” decree from the Netflix Red Queen.

Can the Show Be Revived?

There was no indication that the show would be shopped around after the cancellation, and Netflix usually retains the rights to its originals for at least two years. I expected more of an outcry from the fans, but I have not seen too much activity to save the show over the past few months since it was axed. It is still possible that fans could lobby the streamer to bring it back, but we have rarely seen that work out for Netflix originals. If they were to stage watch parties to get the show back in the Top 10 rankings, and also do a subscription drive to get people to sign up for the service to watch the show, that might draw the attention of Netflix execs. Fans could also lobby other streaming services to pick it up, but the trend these days is to get away from the more expensive productions. This one did have strong viewership out of the gates, though, so perhaps Amazon or Hulu might take a flyer on it if fans were to bring enough attention to the show. They can also vote for it in our Spring poll, and those numbers will be shared with the streaming services. It seems like a longshot at this point, but there is still a chance that KAOS could continue if fans stir up enough noise.

Where Can You Watch It?

The entire first season is still streaming on Netflix, and I imagine it will remain there until 2026.

  1. I just recently started KAOS & watched it untill the very end. I love this or loved the show. with Jeff goldblum as the main actor makes it even better. it was set up for round 2 perfectly. especially with the things that had changed like the new Fates being introduced, and how Zeus lost it all to prometheus.. Definitely need to know more about if Zeus & his family get it all back. so please allow a SECOND season.

  2. Kaos is so good! I really want to see how it will all play out. It’s such a unique idea. Great acting and writing, I got so hooked in! Then boom-leaving us all hanging like that… not cool. I hope it gets revived.

  3. Loved Kaos. Bewatched again and still love it. I so want to see how it was going to carry on. If they can’t do the 2 planned series. They could do 2 films to cover series 2 and 3 so get the story to conclusion done.

  4. Please bring back Kaos for another season. It was fabulous and there is so much story left to be told! It was an amazing production – for us more.

  5. Whyyy? You finally make a good show; great actors, story line… Then BAM! It’s over! Good shows are so hard to find, especially when you are a binge watcher!
Good shows are so far and few between, you find one and it’s over before it starts! Just like when you think you’ve found a good person, its good for a little while then …..

  6. This is one that keeps me laughing and on the edge of my seat! I really pray they bring it back! Frfr. Every actor is perfect for their part! I can’t get enough of this show! We want more!

  7. Finally I found a show that was different, intriguing in all aspects, intelligent, and for me a series that I am watching back to back because I’m enjoying it so much

How short side of Netflix. If people are confused by it they either lack of imagination or the brains to keep up with something uniquely smart.

    1. I’m so sad they canceled 😞. They had an amazing show going. I was looking forward to seeing more! And it was a show even my husband liked, so we actually watched it together. One of the only ones.

  8. I am 73 and I loved KAOS. The actors were all wonderful, the story was clever and spoke to all ages, the design was beautiful. Even if you didn’t remember every reference, the story made sense. I was so happy to find the series and very disappointed it ended. Money was an excuse. If they want to spend it they will. It needed a champion in-house. Who should that have been?

  9. This show was so great! It took me 2 nights to watch the whole thing, and when I wasn’t watching it, I was wondering what would happen next. I’m really upset that Netflix has cancelled it, and would absolutely sign up for another streaming service if that service picked up the show and continued the story! It definitely took me a second to “get” the tone of the show, but halfway through the second episode I knew I was in love!

  10. This show was spot-on great. The chemistry of the cast was palpable, character progression on target. It should be continued. If Netflix won’t then maybe somebody else will. The algorithm that calculated the end of this show was jacked. As the chant says, “Insania, Vero”.

  11. I really loved the show and the actors. Netflix please bring it back. The show has real gems of information for those with 👀 eyes that see and ears that hear. P.S I was one of those renewed souls!!!!! The information was given to me and this show was confirmation.

  12. Netflix is full of crap, they had a lot of ratings. It’s about money. That’s why I’m cancelling Netflix. They start good shows, and cancel them, knowing they have good ratings. I loved this show!! It was creative, and great actor’s.

    1. They canceled KAOS yet they dug their heels in and went through with another season of The Witcher with Temu Geralt. Unbelievable. They finally put out something fresh and original and because their ratings binky isn’t shoved into their gaping face holes they axe it. I’m so tired of watching an “original series” only to have no conclusion or a rushed conclusion. If they gave things time to gain an audience or promote their content better. Like I JUST found it. And they put so much out that you can’t possibly keep up with it all in the time frame they give something to succeed. They need to adjust their expectations in the new world of media consumption. A new world they started and have failed to grow with as others have joined the market. It’s outrageous.

  13. Totally disappointed there won’t be a season 2, ridiculous! Such a great series. Hopefully another streaming service will pick it up soon

    1. I love traditional Greek mythology. This was the best new interpretation I’ve watched but these 1 season specials seem to be the way Netflix is going & it’s so disappointing

  14. We watched the first season of KAOS and found it really refreshing. Great cast, great twist on Greek mythology. Really disappointed there was no season 2. Hope Netflix will change their mind and run the show again.

  15. Just finished watching Kaos. So annoyed to arrive at a cliffhanger and then find there is no second series. Finish what you start, Netflix!!

  16. Netflix you need to finish what you started, I was up until 4 am because I binge watched kaos! I was really excited to watch the next season only to find out you cancelled it! I thought when you have a show that is good enough to make people watch every single episode at the same time and crave more that you don’t cancel that show abruptly leaving it’s fans also your customers just hanging! Bring kaos back!!! We want more!!! If this is how Netflix is going to be then I will not waste my time with it or it’s service! I will cancel my service and I’m sure that I am not alone! Why waste our time getting hooked on a show only to find out that their will be no conclusion. Some of us use these shows to escape from reality in a world that has become such a mess, we can just for a moment let it go and sink in to a fantasy! Please bring kaos back!

  17. Me and my husband stumbled across this while browsing something new to watch. We absolutely LOVED it and binged it over 3 nights. We were gutted when we realised there was to be no further series. Please make more – it was so different to the usual stuff on TV. I’m gutted I’m not going to see what happens.

    1. BRING. THIS. SHOW. BACK. PERIOD!! I cannot believe this was canceled after one season. It’s hard to come across a show this well made. I mean the creativity, the humor, the fricking script, man– it was a fantastic show! Enough people just don’t know about it. Just give it time, Netflix. This show is cult-following in the making.

  18. My and my husband did watch this and my husband never watches series but it was his first time when he loved it!! please bring it back

    1. Netflix … cancel another show that I think is great and I will swap to another streaming platform … its about time you as a business gave some thought to your customers , not just maximising profits… sort it you #£#££

  19. Love love the show, really getting tired of Netflix getting me involved with new shows and not carrying for more than 1 season. It makes me apprehensive in watching any future new shows of theirs. This is becoming increasingly a common and apparent theme for Netflix and their shows. This is just the latest blow for me. Seriously considering of canceling and attempting to swage any new sign ups publicly.

  20. Just discovered this! It was marketed really poorly. Brilliant show!! Clever, witty, entertaining, unique show. So disappointed to find it was cancelled. Terrible decision. It’s the sort of show that will build in views as people start to discover it. A shame to have something so intelligent axed. :(((

  21. I’m on my third watch and I still can’t believe it was cancelled. Such a brilliant show!!! I really hope someone picks it up omg.

  22. Just watched it. It was so brilliant, so creative and interesting. Great acting! They didn’t advertise the show enough I only just now found it . Such a bummer

    1. I totally agree! I had to dig through the abyss to find this show. If it were recommended or even offered closer to the top of my feed I would’ve watched it ages ago. I devoured it! I know others would too if it were given half a chance.

  23. I’m gutted there isn’t going to be another season. Kaos was different and edgy. Great cast and a fantastic spin on greek mythology.

I really hope they do revive it.

  24. Loved the show – finally something different than the usual Netflix crap!
Really wish it would have been renewed.

  25. Just watched it for the 2nd time and was wondering when the next season would be out. Looked it up and their will be no season 2 what a damn shame. I can’t see how it’s not a win to make anseason 2 after season 1 did so good. It’s a funny show with great actors.

  26. Best series in Netflix for ages . Maybe a bit of a niche audience but better than so many of the dumbed down programmes . So disappointed that there will be no season 2

  27. I found KAOS on Netflix, while I was Browsing through. KAOS is a Very entertaining Show and there are many of us who would LOVE to see Several more Seasons. PLEASE Listen to the Consumers and do the right thing,
    Thank You,
    David Brunet

  28. What kind of ‘outcry’ am I supposed to make? I tell everyone I know to watch it. I saw articles and petitions. Saying that it’s either ‘love it’ or ‘hate it’ is equally ridiculous, that just means it took a stance and said something with it’s storytelling. Popular appeal is overrated. A sad reminder of capitalism’s rule over art and entertainment. Reminds me of Freaks and Geeks cancellation.

  29. I JUST finished watching the first season last night and thought the ending was tremendous.
It’s being cancelled is almost Kaos itself. I am heartbroken that this happened. Netflix made a mistake, I came across it by accident and have loved it and now five of my colleagues have just started watching it. Turn it into a movie Netflix!!! and let the creator, cast, and crew delight us with such wonderful performances. Would have loved to see how it all would have ended

  30. Absolutely love Kàos and want to see more. I was so disappointed they canceled it. The best cast èver! And the writers did a fabulous job. Please bring it back. Continue with the Greek story line. I told everyone about it and encouraged them to watch it. I totally support new series.

    1. I think Kaos was such a unique idea and there really is nothing like it, outside of animation of course. Even if the show did not meet what Netflix expectations were, I think it was a stupid choice to cancel it. The cast was very well put together. All the characters have all played off of each other very well. Not to mention all the unanswered questions fans have! We need to start a petition for the RENEWAL (LOL get it?) of this fantastic show. I have rewatched season 1 many times and would very much like to see season 2. Get it together Netflix!
