The 2025 Upfronts begin this week with the big ones from the broadcast networks and major streaming services coming next week. That is when the broadcasters and the streamers present their schedules for the coming season to their sponsors, and this used to be a pretty big deal back when the old school nets (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW) focused more heavily on scripted programming. But as far as sci fi and fantasy fans are concerned, there is not much of interest coming from those networks since they offer very little in the way of genre entries these days. It is possible that one or two shows might get announced for the coming season, but I don’t expect much from them. And we already know the status of the three shows airing on those networks: Ghosts (CBS) has been renewed through its sixth season, Krapopolis (FOX) has been renewed through its fourth season, and Superman & Lois (CW) was cancelled after four seasons.
As far as the streaming services, we should hear some cancellation and renewal announcements in the coming days from AMC, Peacock, Max, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and Hulu. Following is the schedule of presentations for next week, and generally the cancellation/renewal announcements precede those:
Monday May 12, 10:30 AM – NBCUniversal
Monday May 12, 4:00 PM – FOX
Monday May 12, 6:30 PM – Amazon
Tuesday May 13, 4:00 PM – Disney
Wednesday May 14, 10:00 AM – Warner Bros. Discovery
Wednesday May 14, 2:00 PM – Netflix
CBS and The CW are not doing presentations this year, but instead having direct meetings with the sponsors. Both should release their schedules in the next week, though.
As is typical for this time of year, I put out the Save My Show poll for the current season. Below is the list of all the sci fi and fantasy shows that have been cancelled or are ending this season along with those that have not heard word on their fates yet. I am also including four shows from the prior season that are still waiting for a cancellation or renewal announcement: Ark: The Animated Series (Paramount+), Creepshow (Shudder), Hit Monkey (Hulu), and Them (Prime Video). The Orville is also included here because it has not been officially cancelled yet and there are indications that a fourth season is in the works. I have also added Star Trek: Prodigy because Netflix has passed on the third season of that one and fans can lobby for it to move to a new venue. Cast your vote once for up to five shows that you believe should continue to another season. And note that I did fix the error that was in last Summer’s poll that allowed people to vote multiple times.
The poll results will be shared with the networks and streaming services, and we have seen cases in the past where shows have been saved by fan support (Lucifer, The Expanse, Manifest). In addition, fans should make a Call to Action on the social networks to help support the shows that they believe should stick around for additional seasons. You can see the status of all the current sci fi and fantasy television shows at our Cancellation Watch Page, and be sure to stay tuned to this site and the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for breaking news and updates.
Note that shows like Shadow and Bone, Lockwood & Co., Warrior Nun, Fate: The Winx Saga, and Legends of Tomorrow are not included here because they are cancelled shows from past seasons. Those and more will be appearing in the next “Cancelled All-Stars” poll that will go up in July.
THIS POLL IS NOW CLOSED

Where’s the petition to bring back Kaos. If they can bring back the Santa Clarita diet because of demand where do I sign up for Kaos to return?
Fr I want the show back im hooked and just now finding out they aren’t doing another season???! I want to sign the petition!!
I am begging a streamer to pick up and finish Wheel of Time. I have no idea what is going through the minds of the odious executives at Amazon. My opinion of Amazon is now in hell.
Wheel of Time has a built in fandom, the show in season 3 was described as one of the best fantasy shows out today, and at times as one of the best fantasy shows EVER made. A streaming net work that would not idiotically enforce 8 episodes only per season would allow this series to fly to even greater heights.
Read the books. You’ll like them better anyway.
We are doing all we can for the Wheel of Time, Sony take note! Visit saveWOT.com to sign the petition!
The vote button isn’t working!
But I hope Star Trek Prodigy finds a home! Love that show!
If you are on a mobile device, go to the bottom and select “Exit Mobile Version”. Then you should be able to vote.
I am really upset with alot of friends and family that you will cancel “SURREAL ESTATES” This is a fantastic series I think if you would take it off on Thursday evenings at 10:00pm and pit it back on Friday evenings about 8:00pm or 9:00pm. You would see alot more viewers and younger people. Please rethink your decision about canceling this show Thank you
**WOW**
I’m really surprised at the cancellation of “The Wheel of Time.” There is a huge fandom for the novels that is a ready-made market for Amazon Prime. PLUS it has the advantage that it is a *completed* series and wouldn’t suffer from the “What Do We Do Now?!” that “Game of Thrones” had when they ran out of books that had been written.
I think Amazon sunk far. far too much money into “Lord of the Rings” and many of their other shows have been and will pay the price for that waste. I think “The Expanse” was an example of this, when they ended the series with the 6th season AND also reduced the number of episodes from previous seasons for its last one.
(There are 3 more seasons based on the novels to tell! I know fans hope the series might return someday as movies (there is a time-jump between the 6th and 7th novel), but given how badly Amazon Prime treats so many of its series, I would NOT count on this. Perhaps they can find a new home at another studio/network so that “The Expanse’s” story will be told in full one day.)
At best, I find “Rings of Power” to be mediocre. while I find “The Wheel of Time” far more interesting and original. And “Rings” was given a 5-year commitment — for a series that DOES NOT have a completed story to work from. That is terrible, terrible planning.
I know it is likely never going to happen, but I do wish studios would COMMIT with the producers to X-number of seasons for a *COMPLETE* story to be told BEFORE they even produce the first season! I think the producers hoping for 8 seasons for “The Wheel of Time” was completely unrealistic — but 5 seasons like “Rings of Power” has would have given them the opportunity to plan out how to tell the novels’ story with a satisfactory ending.
ASIDE: I expect Apple+ to NOT renew “Foundation” after its upcoming 3rd season. The suits there have been complaining about the costs and its showrunner has stepped aside into another role in its production because of those arguments. Uh-oh.
WHY — Oh, WHY do studios pick-up shows that are *obviously* going to be costly due to the very nature of their productions — and then suddenly cancel them after a few seasons because **GASP!** they are too costly to produce. I mean: *DUH!*
Make the commitment — or just do *NOT* do it!
I know of folks who have said they have stopped watching new series until they KNOW that the story has been told with a proper conclusion. This, of course. undercuts the chance of series reaching an ending because it reduces the audience — BUT it also screws over the studios, because if they DID make a promise to commit to a series being finished (as long as the ratings were *reasonable*), they would have those viewers for their series from the start.
I mean, this screws things up in so many other ways as well. Who wants to watch a series in rerun/syndication if they know the story is never completed?! Are fans going to rush out and buy Blu-Rays of ONLY 3 seasons of “The Wheel of Time” when they know they are going to be left with an unfinished tale?! The studios are creating their own income loses when they do this type of cr*p.
Oh, well, I hope this likely-last season of “Foundation” is entertaining….

“I’m really surprised at the cancellation of “The Wheel of Time.””
Laughing my ass off here. WoT managed to be even worse than RoP.
Why people like this mediocre stuff so much?
I agree. They massacred this novel. Might as well call it something different.
