Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.
Sci Fi TV Premieres This Week:
Sunny (Apple TV+): Suzie is an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company. Though at first Suzie resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, gradually they develop an unexpected friendship, as together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family, becoming dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed. The first two eps will be available for streaming on Wednesday.
Schedule Notes:
Syfy’s Reginald the Vampire will be wrapping up its second season on Wednesday. There has been no word on a third-season renewal at this point. AMC+ apparently picked up the British supernatural drama Domino Day and has been releasing new episodes on Thursdays, so I have added that to the schedule (it is also streaming on Sundance Now). Below are the full listings for the current week, and you can see all of the premieres for July and beyond at this link. The two-week view of the schedule is available here.

Sci Fi TV News of Note:
With Paramount exploring a sale or a partial sale, apparently the Star Trek franchise is on the bargaining block as well. SciTrek has talked to some inside sources, and the property could be sold to another production company which would take control of its direction. It would still be tied to Paramount, but the new owner would decide which shows and films to proceed with. You can watch the full coverage of this story at this link.

The long-in-the-works animated Arkham Asylum TV series is no longer going forward at Max. It was first announced in 2020 and was supposed to take place in the same universe as the Matt Reeves The Batman films. Originally, it had the working title Gotham PD and was going to focus on the police force of that town, but then it shifted to delving into Arkham Asylum. There is no word on whether it is being shopped around to other venues.
In production news, Stranger Things Season 5 has reached the halfway point. It still has a ways to go, though, and will likely premiere at some point in 2025.
In scheduling news, Netflix’s animated series Terminator Zero has received a premiere date of August 29th.
