The Lazarus Project Has Been Cancelled by Sky After Two Seasons

The time-jumping series The Lazarus Project will not be continuing for a third season as Sky has announced the show’s cancellation. That British production aired its first season on TNT in the States and it won a BAFTA Cymru award over in its home country while also receiving a nomination for a BAFTA TV award. During its first season, it was one of the most-watched originals on the Sky Max streaming channel with a 28-day audience of 1.7 million. A Sky spokesperson made the following statement about the series:

The Lazarus Project has brought audiences jaw-dropping action and time-bending storylines across two seasons, and we are incredibly proud of this BAFTA-winning series.

Whilst we won’t be commissioning another season, we would like to thank the incredible team who made this show possible.

There is no word at this point on why the show has been cancelled, and this will leave it on a cliffhanger ending. There is also no word on whether it will be shopped around. A premiere date for the second season on TNT has not been announced yet.

Since it is unclear when this show will air its final season on TNT, I will not be counting it in the 2023-24 season just yet. The current Cancellation/Renewal Score stands at 21 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (42% of shows tracked) vs. 9 cancelled and ending (18%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons at our Cancellation Watch Page.

The Lazarus Project follows a man who starts experiencing time loops and who is asked to join a top-secret organization dedicated to preventing mass extinction events and with the ability to make time go backwards. It stars Paapa Essiedu, Anjli Mohindra, Tom Burke, Caroline Quentin, and Charity Clive.

We are more than halfway through the season and there are plenty more renewal and cancellation announcements on the way. You can see the status of all this season’s shows at this link. And be sure to follow this site and the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for updates and breaking news.
