Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.
Status Updates
Halo The Series (Paramount+, Status: Renewal Possible): This show spent a second week in a row in the Top 5 of the Nielsen Streaming Rankings. It slipped to Number 4, but the viewership improved from its premiere week to an estimated 458 million minutes. A third season has not been announced yet, but this one is performing quite well for a Paramount+ original and a renewal looks like a good bet at this point.
Not Dead Yet (ABC, Status: On the Bubble): The ratings for this supernatural comedy are down from its first season, and it continually loses a notable amount of its lead-in audience from The Conners. It is also currently performing well below ABC’s average for all programming and for comedies. I am moving this one to Bubble status, and fans should make some noise on the social networks if they want it to stick around for a third season.
Resident Alien (Syfy, Status: Renewal Possible): The linear ratings for this series are down slightly from its second season, and I was thinking its third year might be its last since Syfy cut the episode order short at only eight eps. But it has been performing well in encore runs on Netflix with the first season having spent five weeks in that streamer’s Top 10 so far. It’s possible that could help give it a boost to a fourth season, but fans should definitely make some noise to support this one and help its cause.
Hello Tomorrow! (Apple TV+, Status: Ended): It has been over a year since this show premiered with no word on its fate, so I am going to assume that it is done for now. The showrunners had plans for a second season, but this one may have gotten lost in the mix during the production stoppage from the strikes. It did wrap up many of its storylines at the end of the first season, but it could have continued from there, and perhaps a second season could still happen at some point. Fans may want to make a Call to Action for this one on the social networks, but at this point it looks like it is yet another one-and-done genre entry that was cut short by the Peak TV Crunch.
