Cancellation Watch: Halo Enters the Nielsen Rankings, Evil Will Not Be Shopped Around, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Halo The Series (Paramount+, Status: Renewal Possible): This video game-based series entered the Nielsen Streaming Rankings at Number 3 the week of its second season premiere with an estimated 354 million minutes of viewing. Nielsen was not tracking Paramount+ at the time of its first season, so we don’t have prior year numbers to compare to. But the second-year viewership certainly looks strong for this one and could help it continue into a third season.

Evil (Paramount+, Status: Cancelled): This show’s upcoming fourth season has already been announced as its last, though one of the stars of the series Katja Herbers made a shout-out to Netflix suggesting they pick it up. However, series creator Robert King has said that there are no plans to shop the show around at this point. He indicated that the four bonus episodes the show will receive (on top of the ten already planned for the fourth year) will be approached as a mini-fifth season and will give them the opportunity to provide a conclusion that is “satisfying to the audience and to ourselves”.

The Power (Amazon, Status: Ended): This series premiered in March of 2023 and there has been no word on a second season.  Members of the cast have indicated that they would like to return to the show, but at this point, it appears it has been lost in the mix with all the production delays due to the strikes.  Perhaps a second season is still possible, but I am going to consider this one ended for now.  Fans should make some noise on the social networks if they want the show to continue, otherwise, it becomes another one-and-done casualty of the Peak TV Crunch.
