Sci Fi TV Highlights: Neuromancer Series in the Works at Apple TV+, The Librarians: The Next Chapter Casts Lead, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Sci Fi TV New:

Apple TV+ has given the greenlight to a television adaptation of William Gibson’s seminal cyberpunk novel Neuromancer. Deadline gives the following description for the project:

Neuromancer will follow a damaged, top-rung super-hacker named Case who is thrust into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime with his partner Molly, a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes, aiming to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets.

JD Dillard and Graham Roland are developing the ten-episode series with the latter acting as showrunner. There is no word at this point on whether this could be an ongoing series that goes beyond the story of the novel. The streamer will likely be looking at a 2025 premiere for the show.

Jessica Green (The Outpost) has been cast in the lead role of Charlie Cornwall in the upcoming CW series The Librarians: The Next ChapterDeadline gives the following description of the show:

The Librarians: The Next Chapter is a spinoff of the original TV series The Librarians, which followed the adventures of the custodians of a magical repository of the world’s most powerful and dangerous supernatural artifacts. The new series centers on a “Librarian” from the past, who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here. When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians.

Original series creator Dean Devlin will be onboard as showrunner and executive producer and this one will likely be looking at a Fall 2024 premiere.

Tim Southam (One Piece) will be joining Foundation for its third season as director, replacing David Goyer.  The latter has stepped back from his involvement with the show in a dispute over the budget and he is mostly involved with writing at this point.
