Black Mirror Will Return for a Seventh Season on Netflix

Coming as no surprise, Netflix has given its dystopian anthology Black Mirror a seventh season renewal. The sixth season of the show premiered in June 2023 and it spent five weeks in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings and four weeks in the Netflix Top 10. It has also received critical acclaim throughout its tenure, though the sixth year did get some mixed reviews from critics and viewers. The first two seasons of the show aired on Channel 4 in Britain before it was picked up by Netflix. This renewal will get it to its fifth season as a Netflix exclusive which is beyond the typical three-to-four-season run for originals on that streamer. But since it is an anthology, each season is treated as an event and viewers do not need to have watched previous episodes, meaning that there is typically less audience attrition from year to year. A premiere window has not been announced for the seventh season yet, but expect it to arrive late 2024 or early 2025.

This renewal counts back to the 2022-23 season and brings that tally to 41 renewed sci fi and fantasy shows (46% of shows tracked) vs. 43 cancelled and ending (48%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons at our Cancellation Watch Page.
