Cancellation Watch: Warrior Nun Will Return as Three Movies, Twisted Metal Has Good Start, and More

#SaveWarriorNun: Fans are trying to save Warrior Nun from cancellation.

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Warrior Nun (TBD, Completed 2nd Season, Revived): Series creator Simon Barry had previously announced that this fantasy series had been saved from cancellation and now executive producer Dean English has revealed in a statement on YouTube that the show will be returning as three feature films. Because of the strike, though, further details are not available. There is no indication at this point what venue will carry the films since the property is likely leaving Netflix nor when production will start (all production is shut down at this point due to the strikes). According to The Wrap, Simon Barry will not be involved with the films, though no further information was available on that. This is a developing story, so stay tuned for more info.

Twisted Metal (Peacock, Streaming 1st Season, Renewal Possible): Peacock is reporting that this series has debuted as one of the streamer’s most-binged comedy series to date. They have not released any numbers, but Deadline has some early stats from Nielsen that indicate the show had 400 million minutes of viewing in its first week. All of that sounds promising for this video game-based series and could help it continue into a second year.

The Power (Prime Video, Completed 1st Season, On the Bubble): This show wrapped up in May and there has been no word on its fate. It did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for its first-year run, but it has received decent marks from critics and viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, currently holding a 74% Fresh Rating and an 80% Audience Score. Members of the cast have indicated that they would like to return for a second season, but with the strikes bringing production to a halt, it’s possible this show could get lost in the mix and I am moving it to Bubble status. Fans should make some noise on the social networks to bring it some attention and improve its chances of returning for a second year.

Hello Tomorrow! (Apple TV+, Completed 1st Season, On the Bubble): This odd little retro series arrived in February, but there has been no word on its fate since it wrapped up its first season in April. It did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings and it did not get great feedback on Rotten Tomatoes, currently holding on a 54% Tomatometer Score and a 73% Audience Score. Apple TV+ has been cancelling some of its first-year shows of late and this one could follow that path as well, so I am moving it to Bubble status. The showrunners do have plans for a second season, but that is uncertain, especially with the ongoing strikes. Fans should certainly make some noise on the social networks to support this one and bring it more attention.
