Sci Fi TV Highlights: Premieres for The Handmaid’s Tale S5, War of the Worlds S3, Vampire Academy, and More

Sci Fi/Fantasy TV Shows Premiering This Week


War of the Worlds (Season 5 Premieres September 14th on Hulu): June faces consequences for killing Commander Waterford while struggling to redefine her identity and purpose. The widowed Serena attempts to raise her profile in Toronto as Gilead’s influence creeps into Canada. Commander Lawrence works with Aunt Lydia as he tries to reform Gilead and rise in power. June, Luke and Moira fight Gilead from a distance as they continue their mission to save and reunite with Hannah. The first episodes of Season 5 will be available for streaming on Wednesday.



War of the Worlds (Season 3 Premieres September 12th on EPIX): When astronomers detect a transmission from another galaxy, it is definitive proof of intelligent extra-terrestrial life. The world’s population waits for further contact with baited breath. They do not have to wait long. Within days, mankind is all but wiped out; just pockets of humanity are left in an eerily deserted world. Premieres at 10 PM EST on Monday.



Vampire Academy (Premieres September 15th on Peacock): Lissa, a Royal vampire, and her best friend and protector, Rose, navigate romance, class politics, and ancient magic at their boarding school for vampires. When a mysterious bond develops between the two friends, they must work together to decipher it, all while facing threats inside the gates and out, including the bloodthirsty and undead Strigoi. Based on the international best-selling series from Richelle Mead. The first episode will be available for streaming on Thursday.



Fate: The Winx Saga (Season 2 Premieres September 15th on Netflix): Determined to master their enchanting powers, a group of teens navigate rivalry, romance and supernatural studies at Alfea, a magical boarding school. All episodes will be avaialble for streaming on Friday.

Also this week, AMC’s Tales of the Walking Dead will be wrapping up its first season.  There is no word at this point on whether it will be back for a second year.
