Status Updates: A Second Season of Peacemaker May Take a While, Star Wars: Visions Is Likely a One-Off, and More

Status Updates: Updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows currently airing/streaming or those waiting for word on their fates. You can see the status of all the active, returning, upcoming, and recently cancelled/ended shows at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Peacemaker (HBO Max)

(Streaming 1st Season, Renewal Possible): This spin-off from The Suicide Squad releases its first season finale on Thursday, but there has been no word on a second year yet. HBO Max viewership is not currently tracked by the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, but Parrot Analytics has indicated that the show has performed quite well in streaming in its first season.  Both creator James Gunn and star John Cena have indicated that they want to continue the show, but Gunn mentioned in a recent interview that he needs to take a break first after completing the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 3 movie.  So a second season looks like a good bet, it just may take a while.

Star Wars: Visions (Disney+)

(Completed 1st Season, Ended): This animated anthology series has received high marks from critics, but there has been no word on a second season since it debuted in September 2021.  Executive producer James Waugh said at that time that “there’s nothing planned right now” as far as a continuation, and the fact that Disney+ has made no mention of it suggests that they are looking at the series as a one-off.  It is possible that more episodes could be produced down the road, but for now I am considering this one ended.

The Book of Boba Fett (Disney+)

(Completed 1st Season, Renewal Possible): There has been some grumbling about this show online, but it holds a 73% Fresh Rating and 60% Audience Score at Rotten Tomatoes for its first season.  It has performed strong in viewership, ranking consistently in the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 so far, and it appears to be set up to continue the story of its title character.  I would expect at least another couple of years from this one.

Firebite (AMC+)

(Completed 1st Season, Renewal Possible): This Australian-made vampire romp has received a fair amount of promotion and critics and audiences seem to like it so far with an 87% Fresh Rating and a 67% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.  There are no viewership stats for the show, though, because the Nielsen Streaming Rankings do not track AMC+. There has been no word on a second season yet, but AMC+ will likely want to support one of its first scripted originals, so it could stick around for a few more years.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation (Netflix)

(Completed 1st Season, Renewal Possible): Kevin Smith has indicated that he would like to continue his He-Man revival for a second season, but there has been no word yet from Netflix. The show was well-received by critics, holding a 92% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but viewers were mixed giving it only a 41% Audience Score.  It did not rank in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, nor in the Netflix Top 10, so viewership may not have met the streamer’s expectations.  But there still is a chance that this one could continue for a second year.

Super Crooks (Netflix)

(Completed 1st Season, Renewal Possible): Netflix has been silent on the status of this show and it did not place in the viewership Top 10 for the streamer when it was released. A live-action series based on the same source material is in the works (to be titled Supercrooks) and perhaps the animated series is considered a lead-up to that. But it is possible that more animated episodes could follow at some point.
