Cancellation Watch Breaking News: Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle Will End with Its Fourth Season

According to Deadline Hollywood, the upcoming fourth season of Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle will be the show’s last. The news is somewhat surprising considering that this series has received much acclaim and is one of Prime Video’s most-watched originals. But it is expensive to produce and Amazon has the Lord of the Rings prequel series (with a price tag around $1 billion), The Three Body Problem (also costing $1 billion), and The Wheel of Time on the way, so they probably needed to free up some development money. TMITHC has already expanded well beyond the story from Phillip K. Dick’s original novel, and now it will be heading toward a conclusion for the additional storylines it has introduced. Executive Producer Isa Dick Hackett, who is PKD’s daughter, had this to say about the show wrapping up:

It has been a great privilege to work alongside our extraordinary High Castle team, in partnership with David Zucker and Scott Free, to bring my father’s classic novel to life, particularly during this tumultuous period in our real world. I believe fans will be thrilled and satisfied by the epic conclusion we have in store for them.

The final season is currently scheduled to debut in Fall of 2019 and Amazon has released a teaser for that.

The Man in the High Castle takes place in an alternate reality where the Axis powers defeated the Allies in World War II and have split control of America with Japan taking possession of the Western states while Germany runs the East with a neutral zone in between. A resistance arises to challenge the invaders and discovers that other realities exist, including the one where the allies won the war. It stars Alexa Davalos, Rupert Evans, Luke Kleintank, DJ Qualls, and Rufus Sewell and is based on the Philip K. Book of the same name.

As we head into the final months of the regular season, expect more renewal and cancellation announcements. Be sure to stay tuned to this site and the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for breaking news as well as the latest ratings results.
