Fans Take Up the Call to Action to Get Lucifer a Fourth Season

If you have a Call to Action campaign to help a struggling sci fi / fantasy show, send us the information and we would be happy to pass it along.

FOX’s supernatural series Lucifer, based on the comic of the same name, has been down in the ratings in its third season, and it is definitely not a lock for a fourth year renewal as we head toward May when the networks set their schedules for next season. It is not one of the network’s worst performing shows, but its numbers have been mediocre at best and FOX will be adding NFL Football to its schedule Thursday nights in Fall thus having fewer hours available to program during the week (I go into the show’s current status in more detail at this link). Fans of Lucifer want to make sure this is one of the shows that remains on the network’s schedule next year, though, and they have headed the Call to Action and taken to the social networks in a show of support.

The owner of the Twitter account LuciFans contacted us to pass on the information on what they are doing to help the show:

In the last few weeks, fans worldwide have banded together to use the #RenewLucifer tag all over social media in an effort to get the attention of @FOXTV. Fans and fan groups have made memes, gifs, videos, banners, polls, games and contests, time zone maps, etc., and have tweeted and RTed constantly for hours on Mondays in an effort to trend the hashtag. It’s worked really well – we have trended nationally, and in some places, internationally. The creativity in the fandom is truly impressive.

Since we want FOX to hear us, we’re currently working on some plans to increase our efforts. Fans have begun making phone calls to FOX, as well as emailing and mailing requests and comments directly to FOX. The fans work together to continue to run well-organized #RenewLucifer Twitter campaigns each Monday until we hear from FOX about a renewal. There are #RenewLucifer videos in development. Fans are commenting on Fox’s FB, Twitter, and Instagram pages about #RenewLucifer. One fan group has been routinely reminding fans to “Bring a Friend” to watch #Lucifer, which was a great idea. We all constantly remind the fandom to use the #RenewLucifer hashtag in tweets. Fans post about #RenewLucifer on the @LuciferOnFOX FB, Twitter, and Instagram pages. We’ve been thrilled that some cast and crew have mentioned #RenewLucifer in their tweets and posts.

Following are the trending tips for the Monday night tweet-storms as well as info on the different ways to contact FOX:

This is exactly the type of Call to Action campaign fans need to be doing to help shows that are struggling in the old-school ratings. The additional attention on social media helps promote the show and also demonstrates engagement by the fans in a way that can be measured. And if FOX ultimately decides to pass on a fourth season, Warner Bros. (the studio that owns the show) will be aware of this fan support and it could convince them to switch it over to the new DC streaming service set to launch later this year. Lucifer fans are doing a great job, and the more the word gets out, the more that support for the show will increase.

LuciFans also shared some comments about the show from Twitter and Facebook users:

From Marina, @youcantmakeme_:
“Lucifer is a rare show where you have 3 genres in one, and it works perfectly. The writing is always on point, the characters are relatable and you can see them growing in a way that makes it impossible for you not to like all of the. It’s the kind of show that can help you forget your troubles either is laughing at their jokes or just connecting to the characters in a way that makes you wish they were real.”

From Donna & Jody, @LuciferContest:
“The world loves Lucifer. The American and International fan base for Lucifer grows daily. The Cast, Show Runners, Writers and Crew are the Dream Team. It would be very disappointing after three years of amazing work, for it not to be renewed. LuciFans come on over to @LuciferContest and check out some basic ways to help #RenewLucifer for Season Four.”

From Ally, @AllyDoricci:
“Lucifer is not just a TV series…it’s about friendship redemption and love! There’s a bit of everything we want in a show…comedy, romance, adventure! The characters are amazing and their storylines are very well written and I’m sure everyone who watches Lucifer finds a personal connection with any of the characters! In addition the show brings people from over the world together, so please, renew Lucifer!”

From Susana, @devilgold666:
“The show is full of nuances that embrace all cultures and ethnic groups. Each one finds a character with whom to feel identified. The story is full of romance, adventure, magic, suspense and lots of humor. What more to ask!”

From Carolyn, a mod on my @LuciFans FB pages:
“Lucifer is actually my favourite show on TV this season and watch religiously every week. It is one of the best shows and deserves to have another season. I would hate to see it cancelled because of bad scheduling.”

From Keeley, a mod on my LuciFans FB page:
“Lucifer is not only my favorite show this season but it’s my favorite show period, that’s still on. It’s something I look forward to every week & something I refuse to miss I don’t care what my schedule is. Most shows lose their ‘it’ factor early on & become quite boring & Lucifer hasn’t done that yet. And I don’t think it should be cancelled all because Fox can’t figure out how to schedule things. It deserves another season.”</blockquote

  1. Lucifer is the best tv series out there and I watch a lot of tv series but this show gets to me emotionally that no other show does and that’s what makes it lovable and want it to keep offering breathtaking moments because ever single episode does and I am grateful that we have such an interesting season 3 even if it’s a love triangle:)) but a good one at that, and so I want lucifer season 4 to bring fourth more of Lucifer’s sibling so for fox please renew lucifer for season 4 everyone is waiting for the announcement in May with our hearts beating and waiting for good or bad news but I hope good news:)

  2. Please don’t cancel Lucifer just because it dropped in ratings this season, it happened once before but proved it’s worthy of keeping around. Just maybe give it another storyline to keep people around and interested, like a connection between Chloe & Lucifer. I have been a loyal fan from Day One & Love It ! Hate if it doesn’t get renewed, Tom Ellis makes it hilarious as Lucifer. Loyal Fan đŸ™‚

  3. Why would @foxtv not #renewLucifer for a 4th season. The show has phenomenal actors and a Phenomenal team of writers. Lucifer’s fan base is quite phenomenal too. Fans from all over the world have come together to fight for this Amazing show. People of all age groups. Fans from Italy Germany,France,Russia and the United States. All fighting for the same thing…….#renewLucifer Season @foxtv.

    1. Agree. “Lucifer” had me immediately hooked from episode 1, initially because of the main actors Ellis & German, who are outstanding, but they really managed to move every supporting character into the spotlight on this show, even the little kid, which is hard enough—that moment where Maze shows her true demon face to Trixie during Halloween, and Trixie smiles, still melts my heart thinking about it—, and even build some kind of arcs for them. And Los Angeles is fascinating as a location. Cities always in motion like L.A., Berlin etc. are great for TV shows. The series has developed into a wonderful genre mix of procedural supernatural fun ensemble drama, and it would be a real shame if they let it go. Ellis & his Lucifer character alone deserve at least 2 more seasons, but they also deserve some decent writing chops. It did get a little stale here and there in the first part of the current season, but if they return to the anarchistic bold vibe they started out with, they might be able to extend the series. They main issue is: Lucifer Morningstar is the actual devil, and Decker needs to start sensing the supernatural side of things, otherwise it will get boring pretty quickly. There’s a lot of potential in this show, but that means that Decker, Espinoza & Richards need to be in the know at some point. And you need to introduce new outside characters as antagonists, either not in the know, or antagonistic because they _are_ in the know, because (to be honest) Pierce/Cain isn’t really working. Nice local L.A. backstory for him, really sweet, but not enough. Pierce is good for the micro-drama between Decker & Lucifer, but a non-starter regarding the big picture, and not suitable as a real antagonist, which is what the show _desperately_ needs.
