The Network Executioner’s Short List: The Exorcist and Agents of SHIELD Have Moved onto the List

It was a slow Summer with not many cancellations to keep me occupied.  But that gave me plenty of time to sharpen my ax, and with Fall now in full swing, I see plenty of opportunities on the horizon.  FOX’s The Exorcist was in trouble before it started when the network cast it to Friday nights.  It has performed poorly as expected on that night, moving it right onto my list.  And you can’t exorcise the Network Executioner!  The Exorcist is the top choice as first victim of the season.  ABC’s Agents of SHIELD only survived to the current season to get it to the episode count that will allow it a syndication run.  Its numbers remain low since returning for its fourth season, and that Ghost Rider guy doesn’t scare me a bit!  The show will get to stick around through the full season, but will almost certainly be sent to me by May.  Holding over from Spring and Summer are Freeform’s Stitchers and CBS’ Braindead.  I don’t know what is holding things up, but I am expecting both of them on my chopping block before too long.

There are several more shows on my radar, and not surprisingly they all come from FOX.  The Last Man on Earth and Scream Queens were under performers last season and have started out low in the ratings yet again.  I expect to officially move them onto the Short List within a week or two.  And Summer’s Wayward Pines is still hanging around out there as well.  It got its second season renewal announcement about this time last year and could escape me once if FOX plays the M. Night Shyamalan card.  But my pet vulture Cuddles and I still have a close eye on it.
