The Charts: Extant is Slipping Out of the Top 25, Sharknado 2 Tops the Nielsen Twitter Ratings for the Week

High profile CBS series Extant–starring Halle Berry and executive produced by Steven Spielberg–continues to experience ratings woes.  It’s numbers have been dropping after having a less than spectacular debut and it is also slipping out of the charts.  In last week’s Top 25 based on the ratings in the 18-49 demographic, the show dropped to the Number 22 slot.  It is still at Number 16 in the total viewers chart, but it is slipping down on that one as well.  It will almost certainly drop again for the current week based on last night’s low point of a 1.0 rating in the demo with 5.9 million total viewers.  It has to be considered a disappointment for CBS but the deal with Amazon where they are picking up part of the production costs in exchange for exclusive streaming rights could still keep it alive.  The other Summer sci fi show from CBS–Under the Dome–has also been slipping in the charts but it still holding onto the Top 15 based on ratings and total viewers.  Both shows continue to do well in the General Sentiment charts which track social activity across multiple sites, so maybe that will help them.  As for the cable shows and the other social network rankings, all the usual suspects showed up last week with an additional appearance of Sharknado 2: The Second One at the top of the Nielsen Twitter Rankings and at the Number 8 slot on the cable Top 25 based on total viewers (and according to Syfy’s spin department, somewhere around a gozillion people apparently watched it at some point last week).  It did not make it onto the General Sentiment charts, but they apparently only track ongoing shows.  Also, NBC’s low-rated pirate series Crossbones made it to the bottom of the GS Top 25 for its final two episodes which were aired back to back last Saturday.
