Her task is to take out Revenants, the resurrected souls of the criminals who were taken down at one time by her great-grandfather. Wynonna teams up with sister Waverly, agent Xavier Dolls and Doc Holliday, the cursed-with-immortality best friend of Wyatt Earp, as they work to stop the Revenants from taking over Purgatory and escaping into the world. The show is based on the graphic novel series of the same name.  Syfy.com

Why Was It Cancelled? This series never drew high viewership numbers during its four-year run on Syfy, but it did develop a very loyal following. It is also relatively inexpensive to produce, so that helped to keep it going. The show’s production company IDW Entertainment ran into financial troubles and the planned fourth season was put into doubt. But the fans stepped up and fought for the show, and Syfy plus Canadian partners kicked in on the funding to make the fourth season happen. A fifth year had been planned, but Syfy announced that the show would be ending with its fourth season. It did wrap up many of its storylines at that point, but the producers shopped it around to see if other venues might take an interest, and fans continued their efforts to support the show. That has led to the announcement that a Wynonna Earp movie with the original cast is in the works and will stream on Tubi TV later in 2024. Whether that will lead into a possible fifth season remains to be seen, but I assume that fans will continue to lobby for more adventures from Wynonna and the rest of the gang.
