the-expanse-syfy-cancelledStatus: Returning, 2nd Season Airs 2017
Timeslot: Wednesdays 10 PM EST
Premiere: February 1st
Network: Syfy
Starring: Thomas Jane, Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper
Series Website:

Description: A thriller set hundreds of years in the future, The Expanse follows the case of a missing young woman who brings a hardened detective and a rogue ship’s captain together in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.

The series is based on the popular New York Times bestselling book series collectively known as “The Expanse,” written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name James S. A. Corey). Abraham and Franck will be show producers.

Season End Status:  The linear viewing for this show was low, but apparently the digital viewing picked up the slack. Plus it has a financing deal that helps cover the pricey production costs. But at some point I’m thinking Syfy is going to wan’t to see higher viewership numbers in order to justify keeping it around.

SyFy’s comparison of this show to “Game of Thrones” seems a bit more ambitious than “The Expanse” is necessarily able to live up to, but I’m enjoying “The Expanse” quite a bit – I think it’s one of the better sci-fi shows to hit the air in quite a while, and it deserves a bit more attention than the ratings seem to suggest it’s gotten. Hopefully, audiences will give this another chance in binge-watching after the holidays, and keep the show going long enough to hit its stride and become a fixture with sci-fi fans.

The writing on this show is really good, with a story arc that progresses markedly in each episode. There are surprising plot twists throughout, and great acting. I’m definitely looking forward to next season.
