Description: Dominion is an epic supernatural drama set in the near future. Specifically, 25 years after “The Extinction War,” when an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, waged war against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, chose to side with humanity. Rising out of the ashes of this long battle are newly fortified cities which protect human survivors. At the center of the series is the city of Vega, a glistening empire that has formed from the ruins of what was once Las Vegas. Syfy.com

Why Was It Cancelled? This series was likely a victim of economics.  Syfy’s numbers have been down lately, though this show actually performed better in its second season than Summer entries Dark Matter and Killjoys and Spring series 12 Monkeys.  But then those first two shows have a partnership deal with the Canadian Space Channel and the last one is probably a less costly entry.  Dominion was likely on the more expensive side for Syfy and the network apparently did not have enough international financing and/or partnerships to help defer costs.  These intangibles make it hard to make accurate predictions on the cable shows, especially the lower performing “ratings noise” entries.  Partnerships/financing helps keep some shows alive but is insufficient or non-existent for others.  Series star Anthony Head did have some comments on the cancellation and claimed that Syfy had a “policy of not doing publicity in the second year, but relying on word of mouth and social media”.  He felt that hurt the show and also that pairing it with WWF “might have been  a bit of a punt”.  Of course Dominion has a very vocal and dedicated fanbase, so I expect an immediate uproar and an attempt to try and get another network or one of the streaming services to pick up the show.  We haven’t seen much success with that of late, but it never hurts to try.

  1. After over 5 decades of watching SciFi, it’s pretty clear why they cancel great series… If it doesn’t contain male gays, it gets cancelled… Ironically, if it contains focus on gay male people, it loses audience, like is abut to happen to “The Walking Dead, The World Beyond”, which starts it’s new season with 2 men kissing…
What SciFi writers don’t seem to understand is #1, we don’t watch SciFi for sex, we watch it for monsters, aliens, etc doing what they do, and hope for a better tomorrow… #2, we have always been called a derogatory word meaning “Gay” (or cigarette) simply for liking SciFi…
I think what happened over the decades, is Writers and /or Producers began to believe we were gay, or potential, and try to produce something we’d really enjoy, or push us over the edge…
It will be a good day when they awake up and see the truth…

  2. They should NEVER EVER END a series without an ending. THIS IS JUST CRUEL. I LOVED THE SHOW and wish they would at least do 3 more episodes when a series is canceled to let them make an ending.. I am truly to the point I will check on a show to make sure there is a finale before viewing . I loved this show and now I have no closure..

  3. Dominion show was good, too bad they didn’t cast Season finale or when they decided not to go ahead with season 3 at least to wrap up show in additional 2-3 episodes. Serious production house would do that.

  4. Definitely an error cancelling Dominion. The new show Lucifer combines some religious theme with another looking man with wings but the historical aspect and the complex storyline of Dominion can’t compare. Dominion was “taking off” with the depth of bring Gabriel’s followers and his new brother lucifer being introduced as an important character

  5. The best show on syfy with a large fan base you have a chance to make serious money with this cast and writers. Too bad

  6. Just one thing. If they were to cancel the show, they could, at least, have given it an ending, even with only 2 seasons. It is not worthy to let the millions of fans around the globe with no answers. I’m brazilian and I loved the show, and I think all the fans deserved better from SyFy channel. I endorse the many askings. SyFy, please reconsider your decision.

  7. I was very surprised and upset how Dominion Ended. This was really my favorte and it is/ws unique.
The characters and storyline was excellent.
    I just got the nerve to search WHAT HAPPENEd. The actors are budding actors and this is really a dis service;
I really object to its being cancelled. I am hoping another network picks this up. Nothing will compare to
this, no matter how much is attempted to copy these concepts and actors. I do expect the actors for
Gabriel and Michael will re emerge but again, nothing can compare to this series.
Dominion Please keep trying to get more backing.

  8. Please do not cancel dominion. It is my favorite show on TV. Great action. It does not go overboard and appears accurate for events that could actually happen at 1 point. Michael has the perfect personality and for sure cute. Well in reality, he is not the cutest guy I have ever seen. The personality of his character makes him cute. Why did it not air tonight? has it been cancelled? i hope not. I look forward to watching the show every week.

    1. What does “being a Wiccan” connect to this storyline. I thought the introduction of the dark side
{Lucifer} might have been too strong. This also might have introduced a new line to follow as far as
storyline goes but I don’t think this angle is favored, especially regarding the main characters.
It actually made me a little uncomfortable. That was not able to be developed.. The way it abruptly
ended it seemed that the Lucifer angle showed a hidden surprise connection to Michael. Whether
it was planned that way, it ended too suddenly.

  9. I loved Dominion absolutelly in Season 1, and in the beginning of Season 2 was promising, but now the plot is a ruin, and the series are a dead end, the ratings could to be much more hights.

  10. I absolutely love this show! It’s different and Tom Wisdom as the archangel Michael is my absolute favorite. There are so many more characters left to be introduced and stories to be told so please please please Syfy…do not cancel this show.

  11. Dominion is a great show, SyFy’s best and great on any station. Therefore, it probably won’t live too long and that prospect makes me sad. They all cancel the good shows and leave the crap.

    1. I agree. The shows kept running are just copies of each other. I have no idea why they continue.
They just rubber stamp each other of course, except for Dominion. Perhaps, the religious
angle might have weakened it, but that was also its strength.

  12. I agree Dominion is the most exciting of Syfy shows. Great writing, multiple intriguing story lines, incredible actors ensemble, digital effects and of course the soundtrack! All is perfectly balanced! It totally deserves to be renewed many seasons over.

  13. Dominion is the best of the best in Sci Fi. Well written with great actors. If it doesn’t get at least a third season and an ending before they cancel I’m done with the Sci Fi network!!

  14. Of all of the shows currently airing on Syfy Channel, “Dominion” is my absolute favorite. Rare amongst the other series on the network, “Dominion” is decently written, with interesting characters and an engaging storyline which moves along at a decent pace. It is too bad that the rest of the shows on Syfy don’t follow this same simple formula.
