Description: Years before Agent Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. team swore to protect those who cannot protect themselves from threats they cannot conceive, there was Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell, Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”), who pledged the same oath but lived in a different time when women weren’t recognized as being as smart or as tough as their male counterparts.  But no one should ever underestimate Peggy.  ABC.com

Why Was It Cancelled?  After a second low-rated season, ABC has decided not to bring this show back for a third year. Agent Carter has continued to receive high marks from fans and critics, but that failed to translate into increased viewership (in fact, the ratings dropped significantly in its second year). It likely only survived after its first season because Disney–owners ABC–told the network to bring it back. But apparently the Mouse House was not interested in saving it a second time. There were rumors previously that Peggy Carter would cross-over with Agents of SHIELD in that show’s upcoming fourth season, and that might provide the opportunity to tie the two together more closely so that they can be packaged together for a syndication run. Haley Atwell is moving on to the (non-genre) pickup by ABC Conviction, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see her revisit her secret agent character again at some point in the movies or on television. There was a petition trying to convince Netflix to pickup the series, but because they didn’t feel it fit in with their Marvel Defenders shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) and because of some international distribution issues, the streaming service chose to pass on it (more on that at this link).

  1. From what Ive read else where, the ratings were only dropping because ABC had dubious scheduling for this show and also minimal marketing. How do you expect a show to do well when people either cant access it to watch, don’t know when the next episode will air. I think studio execs are throwing this under the bus, and using this as an example that female action leads don’t do well – which everyone knows is total utter rubbish.

  2. agent carter much better show than agents of shield. I don’t even watch shield any more lost intrest
