Description: In this bold, adrenaline-fueled new comedy drama, the news that a comet is on an unavoidable collision course with Earth sets in motion the most hilariously unexpected chain of events imaginable. Set against the backdrop of apocalyptic chaos and starring Rob Lowe (“Parks and Recreation”), Jenna Fischer (“The Office”), Megan Mullally (“Will & Grace”) and Mathew Baynton (“Yonderland”), the story follows an eclectic group of seemingly unconnected characters around the world as their lives start to intersect in the most unexpected ways. And when we say “eclectic,” we mean a rebellious priest, an unhinged white supremacist, a mild-mannered bank manager, a germophobic cyber terrorist and an American five-star general. Some of these misfits are destined to make it to a bunker deep beneath the English suburb of Slough, and as a result will become the hugely unlikely (and totally unsuitable) future of mankind. Wouldn’t that be a disaster! NBC.com

Why Was It Cancelled? This show appeared on NBC’s schedule with little or no promotion and in a difficult timeslot. Those factors hurt it chances of finding an audience along with the fact that it strayed far from typical Prime Time fare with its mix of drama and dark humor in an apocalyptic setting.  It debuted with passable numbers but had slipped to historical lows for a Big Four broadcast network show by the end of its run.  I considered it possible that the British Sky Channel (NBC’s partner on the show) could keep it going if they could work out the money.  But apparently that network decided not to go forward with a second season either, though the the news (originally announced early in March) has not been well circulated across the Atlantic.  Sky told Radio Times that “a story with the end of the world at its heart was always going to be hard to bring back and has reached its natural conclusion”.  Of course, those of us who watched the show know it ended on a major cliffhanger and did not in fact reach its “natural conclusion”.  But apparently there will be no resolution for this one, and it will be sent to the TV Wasteland as yet another promising show cut down too soon by the Network Executioner.
