Cancellation Watch: Game of Thrones Goes Out on Viewership Highs, Cloak and Dagger Remains Low

There will not be a Weekly Roundup post this week, but watch for our Season Roundup post shortly

Ratings Results of Interest: Whether you liked the way HBO’s Game of Thrones wrapped up its epic story or not, the series finale drew plenty of eyeballs posting a 5.8 rating based on same day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 13.6 million total viewers. And HBO has reported that 19.3 million total people watched when you count digital viewing and same day encore airings, making it the most-watched episode ever for that network. The same day numbers in the demo also beat out that show’s previous high when it posted a 5.7 rating for its Season 7 finale. Game of Thrones has come to an end, but multiple prequel / spin-offs are in the works with the first targeting at 2020 debut.

In other ratings news, Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger slipped back to a 0.09 rating with 235K total viewers this past Thursday and that show is very much in need of a Call to Action from fans. On Wednesday, Syfy’s Happy! slipped to a 0.07 rating with 239K total viewers, and that is another show that could benefit from a push on the social networks. On Tuesday, The CW’s The Flash improved to a 0.6 rating with 1.5 million total viewers for its Season 5 finale. The other CW shows that wrapped up this past week remained mostly steady.

The other sci fi and fantasy entries remained mostly steady or did not air new episodes during the week.  You can see the full ratings results for the week at this link, and be sure to follow the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for the latest results and breaking news.  The Weekly Roundup post will resume next week.
