Cancellation Watch: NBC Has Ordered More Episodes of Manifest

Coming as no surprise, NBC announced that it had ordered three additional episodes of its hit new series Manifest. That is shorter than the Back 9 order that broadcast networks typically hand out, but Deadline Hollywood noted that heavily serialized shows like this one, This Is Us, and Empire tend to get shorter season orders because of the intricacies involved with planning out the stories. Manifest debuted with an impressive 2.2 same day rating and received a lift to a 4.2 score based on Live+7 viewing. The ratings have slipped some since then, but it is still one of the top-rated scripted shows on television. I figured that it would be receiving an additional episode order, and if its numbers do not slip much further then this one should be on course for a second season renewal.

Manifest follows the passengers and crew of an airplane that disappears for over five years then mysteriously reappears and lands with no explanation for the absence.  For those on the plane, it only seems like a few hours have passed.  But the rest of the world assumed the plane had crashed and all aboard were lost.  It stars Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J. R. Ramirez, and Luna Blaise and is executive produced by Robert Zemeckis.

The Fall season is just getting started so expect more updates and announcements to be made over the next month or so. Plus, there are still several Summer and Spring shows that we are waiting to hear word on such as Humans, Into the Badlands, and Reverie.
