Cancellation Watch Breaking News: Netflix Renews Stranger Things for a Second Season as Expected

stranger-things-netflixComing as no surprise, the streaming service Netflix announced this morning that their 80’s throwback sci fi / supernatural series Stranger Things will be returning for a second season. That show stars Winona Ryder and has received praise from fans and critics alike. It has also averaged over 14 million viewers per episode according to the measuring service SymphonyAM. Those numbers definitely count it as a hit along the same lines as The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, even though Netflix disputes the stats because they try to keep their viewership under wraps. No matter what the final tally is, though, it’s clear that Stranger Things has attracted a significant audience and the renewal announcement has been expected. The second season will comprise nine episodes (one more than the first year’s eight) and will stream at some point in 2017.

There are still several Spring / Summer sci fi & fantasy shows awaiting word on their fate at this point such as Freeform’s  Stitchers (On the Bubble), FOX’s Wayward Pines (On the Bubble), and Syfy’s Killjoys and Dark Matter (Renewal Possible for both).  Keep a close eye on this site as well as the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for any breaking news on those shows and more in the coming weeks.
